The discovered video contains the last known footage of a live Tasmanian tiger.

The marsupial or Tasmanian wolf, or thylacin is an extinct marsupial mammal, the only representative of the marsupial wolf family that has survived to the historical era. His description was first published in the writings of the Linnean Society of London in 1808 by the amateur naturalist Harris.

The black and white clip, which was released today by the National Film and Sound Archives of Australia (NSFA), was part of a 1930s travel blog called Tasmania The Wonderland.

The animal itself was filmed walking around its enclosure at the Hobart Zoo in 1935, making this the last known shot of live thylacin.

Unfortunately, Benjamin died in 1937, about 18 months after this footage was taken.

Although there have been fleeting observations of thylacins since then, their continued existence remains the subject of heated debate with some researchers who remain adamant that the species still exists.
