A resident of the town of Presto (Denmark) 39-year-old Metta Knesgaard recently went for a walk with her dog and accidentally passing by a large tree saw something pink-red and swollen at its foot.
In appearance, this something immediately reminded the frightened woman of a bloody brain, with the "bloody" liquid still oozing and the object seemed wet.
When the woman took photographs of the object and posted it on her Facebook page, in the comments to the pictures, guessing about what it might be immediately began.
Most people agreed that it was some kind of mushroom, but even biologists could not answer which one.
“I have never seen anything like it here before,” the woman writes in a post to the photo. “I was very surprised. Could it be part of a tree? It looked incredibly wild."
Some have suggested that it may be a Hydnellum Peck mushroom, only strongly deformed or "overripe". The photo of this mushroom is below. This is an inedible mushroom from the genus of the barnyard.

Other users have argued that this is a very swollen and also deformed cluster of Fistulina hepatica, aka Common Liver. It is a tinder fungus with moist skin and fleshy flesh. Moreover, young mushrooms are quite edible.

At the moment, even the biologists who joined the discussion of the photographs could not give an exact answer. In the meantime, the woman mentioned that she tried to cut the substance and it began to leak red liquid from the cut.
