So, from modern sources we know that tilaka or "third eye" is an identification mark of a particular religious system or, earlier, caste. Bindi is applied to girls' foreheads when she gets married, that is, joins her husband's family. And this is at the lowest level. BELONGING to tradition.
Let's draw a parallel with the ajna chakra located at the third eye. As the “gurus” say, this chakra must be developed, because “it helps to understand the prompts of the Universe and correctly respond to its non-verbal messages” (source). Very naive, of course, but even in such interpretations there is some truth.
The word "ajna" - अज्ञ is "order, command". Officially. As always, only one meaning is chosen, but Monier Williams' dictionary also gives such translations as “fool, fool, ignorant, not wise, not knowing, unconscious, permission, influence”.

And what happens? "Fool" in combination with "influence, permission" and "order" paints a picture of total devotion, when there is no mind of your own, which is why you blindly follow what you are told.
The word "ajna" is a negation ("a") of "jna" - ज्ञ - "knowledge, reason; to be close to something, to have a soul."
Considering the position of ajna in the third eye and the influence on extrasensory abilities with intuition, it turns out that we are talking about a kind of "direct connection" with something dominant, where a person with a developed ajna chakra is simply unquestioning, that is, without including his own mind, one should behind what they broadcast to him there.
As you can see, the parallel with Bindi and Tilaka is the most direct: a marked (more precisely, "anointed" - from Sanskrit "tila" … yeah, like Christ) a person is accepted into the community and from now on he must abide by all the rules of this society, without breaking them and not giving free rein to their own individuality. That is why tourists are drawn this sign, although they do not know it, it is hospitality, but with obligations to comply with the rules of the hotel, city, country. Like a married woman, she has the right to use the tradition and household of her husband's family, but at the same time refuses her own, pledges not to go against the tradition of her husband. In fact, Tilaka means a kind of "dissolution" in the local society. Like Ajna, this is dissolution in God, and God is not an uncle on a cloud, but a System that includes laws and rules that dominate the follower of this God.
It is from here that such "bonuses" are taken for people with developed "ajna chakra" as clairvoyance and intuition - a direct connection with the divine. You can consider this as a blessing, of course, merging with a higher mind, but what we have, we have: those with the third eye do not belong to themselves. They are now part of the system. Or "supersystems".
Is this "nirvana"?

Complete liberation from the earthly burden is on a par with absorption, dissolution. Disappearance as a person, absorption by a higher system. The word "taming" is perfectly combined with the aforementioned "ajna", isn't it?
It is interesting that we observe the same effect in the Russian word "Mir", which also dissolves in itself, dies of independence and is both a system (global peace) and peace (pacification).
It's funny that no matter how a person declares his freedom and individuality, he, according to different spiritual trends, always wants to belong to someone.
