A robot with the appearance of a five-year-old girl will look after the disabled

Japanese scientists from the University of Osaka presented their latest development - a robot girl, which has become the most realistic robot created by human hands.

The robot, dubbed Repliee R-1 (Ripley), copies a girl at the age of five. Equipped with thousands of sensors, the body is covered with soft silicone skin, braids are braided on the head, and the robot's eyes blink from time to time, reports RBC.

According to developers at Cynerdyne, the Repliee R-1 was designed to perform basic functions in caring for the elderly and disabled. In particular, the robogirl knows how to bring various items.

The sale of the new robot will begin in the next few days. According to the inventors, the android is made so realistic that people perceive it as a living person. According to scientists, the appearance of a five-year-old girl should facilitate interaction with the robot. However, as noted by the British tabloid The Sun, the young creature looks frightening - the baby seems to have come out of a Japanese horror film.

Ripley R-1 is the "little sister" of the female robot Ripley Q-1, created in 2005. However, the model was not very successful due to repeated "spasms" caused by technical problems. In the new robot, these shortcomings are eliminated, the scientists promised.

Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro, who developed the android, believes that someday people will be deceived, mistaking robots for their own kind. Ripley “can interact with people, she responds to touch. It is very joyful, but there is undoubtedly a long way before us, which must be covered,”the professor points out.

According to Ishiguro, it takes 5-10 seconds to recognize a robot. However, "with a careful choice of the situation," he is able to pretend to be human for up to 10 minutes, the creator points out.
