"Manna is from the Hebrew word for surprise: man-lu," what is this? " Bible Encyclopedia. According to the biblical legend, the ancient Jews, who had been wandering in the desert for many years, began to call the food that fell for them from the sky with manna.

In modern colloquial language, the expression "to wait like manna from heaven" means "to wait impatiently" for something good, some kind of profit, and, as a rule, gratuitous, for free.

Biblical version

When the prophet Moses, the leader of the Israelite tribes, called by God Yahweh to bring the Israelites out of Pharaoh's slavery, fulfilled the command of God, then in the process of this difficult and long journey, he repeatedly turned to the Almighty for advice and help. And Yahweh never denied him either this or the other.

Once again, the Jews needed God's help when they were left completely without food in the endless desert. How and what kind of food the Lord sent to the suffering, and how they received and consumed it, the Bible tells vividly and expressively.

“And the Lord said to Moses: Behold, I will rain bread for you from heaven; and let the people go out and gather daily, as they need for the day … … in the morning there was dew near the camp; the dew rose, and now, on the surface of the desert, something small, croup-like, small, like frost on the ground. And the children of Israel saw and spoke to one another; what is it? For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them: This is the bread that the Lord gave you for food.

This is what the Lord commanded: each gather him as much as he needs to eat; according to the omer (about 2.4 liters. - Ed. approx.) per person, according to the number of souls, how much someone has in the tent, collect. And they gathered him early in the morning, everyone, as much as he could eat …”(Bible, Exodus, chapter XVI, 4,13-16).

“Manna was like coriander seed …

The people went and gathered it, and ground it in millstones or pound in a mortar, and boiled it in a cauldron, and made cakes out of it; its taste was like the taste of cakes with oil (Bible, Numbers, chapter XI, 7-8).

Scientists are trying to figure it out

What really happened in the desert? In the mid-1970s, George Sassoon and Rodney Dale, British scientists from Cambridge, decided to find the answer to this question. In the course of their searches, they carefully analyzed a number of ancient manuscript sources, including the Bible and one of the main Kabbalistic books of the 13th century - Sefer Ha-Zohar, after which they came up with the following hypothesis.

The manna from heaven, which the sons of Israel ate, was produced by a complex and very perfect machine, even by modern concepts. Of course, no one could have built such a machine on Earth 3500 years ago, at the time when the exodus of the Jews from Egypt took place. But on the other hand, a similar unit could be on board an alien spacecraft, providing its crew with food and oxygen.

If you carefully read the passage in the Bible where the story of the appearance of manna from heaven is described, and if we accept that this story really happened - and most modern scholars agree with this, it becomes obvious that the raw material for manna could not have been the fruit of tamarisk (as was believed at one time), nor any other plant. In order for all the members of the six hundred wandering families to receive their daily diet regularly in the morning, it was necessary to produce about two tons of manna per day.

Such a quantity of food product during the entire time of the wanderings of the Jews (about forty years!) Could only be produced uninterruptedly by a very perfect and reliable installation with high productivity. At the same time, as follows from the Sefer Ha-Zohar texts and the Bible, she also dosed this product in such a way that on Fridays the portion per family would double, since, according to the canons of Judaism, any productive activity on Saturdays is strictly prohibited. This is how the Bible says about it:

“And Moses said, Collect it for six days; and the seventh day is Saturday; he will not be that day.

See, the Lord gave you the Sabbath, and therefore He gives bread on the sixth day for two days: each stay with him, no one leave his place on the seventh day (Exodus, chapter XVI, 25-26, 29).

The machine itself, which Sassun and Dale identify with the Ark of the Covenant, was housed in a sacred tent, or tabernacle. Both during the transitions and at the camps, the tabernacle was always at a considerable distance from the people. Only priests had access to the car, that is, those who were familiar with the device and the principle of its operation. For everyone else, approaching, and even more touching the Ark of the Covenant, threatened with illness and even death, which is repeatedly mentioned in the Bible.

Sassun and Dale believe the car was handed over to Moses during an episode known as the Mount Sinai Vision:

“Mount Sinai was all in smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire; and its smoke ascended like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently. And the trumpet sound grew stronger and stronger. Moses spoke, and God answered him with a voice (Exodus, chapter XIX, 18-19).

Scientists see in this episode a description of the landing (or launch) of a space rocket, and their assumption looks quite plausible.

As one of the arguments in defense of their hypothesis, its authors cite the following story. After the end of World War II, when American soldiers flew home from one of the islands of New Guinea, its inhabitants built a kind of plane out of straw. The natives prayed to him, hoping that the Americans, who left a good memory of themselves, would return to them again. These straw items have become objects of worship and special ritual ceremonies for the islanders.

According to Sessun and Dale, events developed in the Sinai Desert in approximately the same way. The car, left on Earth by representatives of some highly developed extraterrestrial community, also became the subject of a religious cult, on the basis of which a certain liturgical rite arose, common to both the religion of Moses and Christianity.

According to scientists from Cambridge, the initial product for the production of manna from heaven was a type of green alga such as chlorella, which, under the influence of light, is able to multiply very intensively: in 24 hours under favorable conditions, its mass increases eightfold. The introduction of additives in the form of the appropriate enzymes and mineral salts could turn the final product into “something … croupy. as small as frost on the ground … it tastes like a cake with honey (Exodus, chapter XVI, 14 31).

It is known that at the dawn of the space era, studies of the possibility of using chlorella to obtain food during long-term space flights were carried out in our country. The program of these studies had the code designation BIOS-3.

In order to understand all the nuances of the content and meaning of the book "Sefer Ha-Zohar", Sessun and Dale had to learn two languages: Aramaic - the book was written in it - and Hebrew. The description of the machine, compiled by scientists on the basis of information gleaned from this book, looks very plausible.

The proposed design of the "macrogenerator"

Such a machine was probably arranged in the following way. Its upper part was a cylindrical bioreactor, or fermenter, in which chlorella was located and its reproduction took place. Inside the bioreactor, where the source of light and heat was placed, solutions of mineral salts, water and air enriched with carbon dioxide were supplied. Below, around the bioreactor, there were egg-shaped containers containing solutions of enzymes and mineral salts, and outside it was surrounded by a condenser, which ensured the receipt of the required amount of water from atmospheric moisture.

An autoclave, in which chlorella was converted into a finished product - manna, was located at the bottom of the machine. From the autoclave, manna was fed into two spherical collectors, from where the hungry wanderers received strictly metered portions. On the opposite side of the collectors was a small nuclear reactor, which served as a source of energy, there was also a control system block and a manipulator that performed programmed routine maintenance of the nuclear reactor.

The fact that an article about the first results of their research on the origin of manna from heaven was published in 1977 by the English journal Science, a very serious and authoritative publication in scientific circles around the world, testifies in favor of the arguments given by scientists from Cambridge.
