People, planes and fishing boats have mysteriously disappeared in this place in the United States since at least 1891.
The area, which the locals call the "Michigan Triangle", covers part of Lake Michigan, the city of Ludington and Benton Harbor in Michigan and the city of Manitowoc in Wisconsin.
Most of this zone, as is clear from the figure below, is located directly in Lake Michigan. However, most of the missing people in the area have disappeared into the wooded area along the shores of this lake.
Unidentified flying objects, strange fogs and other unusual phenomena are also often seen here, which generally indicates an anomalous zone.
One of the strangest disappearances happened in February 1978, when a young student, Stephen Kubacki, took a ski trip to the lake. He left in a good mood and there was nothing to indicate that something bad could happen to him.
Kubaki did not return home, and a mass search organized soon found only his tracks, which ended abruptly at the edge of the lake. It was decided that the guy drowned, and although his body was also not found, he was pronounced dead.
A year later, on May 5, 1979, safe and sound, Stephen Kubaki suddenly appeared on the doorstep of his parents' house, while he looked inhibited and did not understand what was happening. He did not know at all that he had disappeared for about a whole year and only crumbs of information about this period were preserved in his memory.

According to Kubaka, he remembered skiing along the shore of the lake, and then fell and lost consciousness. He woke up in a place called Pittsfield, which is 70 miles from where he disappeared. He was wearing someone else's clothes, and next to him was not his backpack, but some kind of dirty and also someone else's bag. The sack contained a map of the area that Kubaka never had.
Kubaki somehow got home and then flatly refused to tell reporters anything beyond this information, sometimes referring to memory loss, and sometimes simply not wanting to communicate with the press.
Many years have passed since then, Kubaki graduated from university, became a scientist and still hikes in the mountains and loves to ski. But until now, he refuses to talk about that strange incident.

Another strange disappearance occurred with 30-year-old Christopher Hollax, who was known as a seasoned hiker who was not afraid of the most difficult routes.
On March 17, 2004, Hollax went to his hut, lost in the forests of State Park Tahquamenon Falls, but he never made it to the hut, disappearing without a trace somewhere on the way to it. When he stopped calling his family, they called the police and the county sheriff organized a massive search for the missing person.
There was still snow in the forests at that time and Hollax's footprints were clearly visible on the snow layer. Moreover, he walked in snowshoes, so his prints were large and noticeable.
A search party was following these tracks when they suddenly broke off at the edge of a frozen forest swamp. People examined everything around, but neither the continuation of the traces, nor Hollax's things, nor the remains of his body were found anywhere.
The only piece of evidence they came across was a fired cartridge case from a pistol. And released quite recently. However, whether she was linked to Hollax's disappearance or not has never been revealed. No traces of blood in the snow or other evidence in favor of the version that someone shot Hollax was also found.
In the summer of 2008, 73-year-old Joe Clevely disappeared without a trace in the same forested area where Hollax disappeared. Clevely, along with his wife and a dog named Chip, came here from Florida, renting a small house on the lake for the summer.
On July 13th, Clevely took his dog along the Tahqua Trail. It was a short walk of only a few hours, and Clevely had called his wife before and told her that he would be back by about 9pm.
But he did not return either in the evening or the next day. After his wife turned to the police, a large-scale search operation was carried out, covering an area of 10 thousand acres in the area of the Tahqua Trail. But all was useless, Clevely and his dog disappeared without a trace from the face of the earth.
On August 1, 2008, a very emaciated, but alive and not even very shabby dog Chip suddenly ran to the house that Clevely had previously rented. Unfortunately, the dog could not tell what happened to his master.
And just a few days after that, on August 4, 2008, 35-year-old Derrick Henegan arranged with his girlfriend to go on a deer hunt in the forest near Newberry.
They agreed on a meeting place and it is known for sure that Derrick arrived in the indicated area, left his car in a parking lot by the highway, and then went into the forest. But he never reached the place of meeting with his girlfriend.
No traces of him were found in the forest, and it is still unknown what happened to him.
In the summer of 2013, 2-year-old Amber Rose Smith disappeared right from her home in Neweigo, on the shores of Lake Michigan. According to her father, he played with his daughter and their two dogs in the children's room, and then went to the toilet for just a few minutes.
When he returned, the girls were no longer in the room, as were the dogs. The father began to look everywhere for the child, and then ran out into the street, where he found the dogs. But the girl was nowhere to be found.
Soon, a large-scale search was launched with the participation of several hundred volunteers, but the girl was found only a day later and at the same time 2 miles from her home. She stood on the road "staring into space" and did not seem to understand how she got there.
They tried to question the girl, but although the child could already speak, the girl did not explain in any way what had happened to her. It looks like she was in a state of shock and disorientation. At the same time, there is a dense forest between her house and the road, but the child did not look like he walked through this forest on his own.
“It is hard to imagine that a girl at the age of 2.5 years covered such a distance through the forest, and even with the fact that the temperature dropped sharply in the evening and at night. Maybe someone picked her up and then dropped her off, we will check it,”said Sheriff Brian Boyd.
However, it was never found out how Amber Rose disappeared from her home and ended up on the road in the forest. It is also curious why the dogs did not follow her, if she herself left the house for the forest, and if it was a stranger, why the dogs did not even bark at him.
