Due to severe drought and heat in Europe, rivers, lakes and reservoirs are drying up. And at the bottom of reservoirs, something is sometimes found that makes scientists jump with delight.

The bottom of a dry reservoir near the Spanish town of Caceres revealed a megalithic structure to the local residents. The religious building was probably erected by the Celtic tribes who lived at that time in the Iberian Peninsula. Local media have already dubbed the find "the new Stonehenge." Radiocarbon analysis of the granite stones showed that the building was at least 4 thousand years old.

The Spanish megalith consists of 144 stones, some of which are two meters high. As with the real Stonehenge, its Spanish cousin has a circular structure. Where exactly the stones were mined and how they were delivered to the construction site - archaeologists still cannot explain. However, scientists suggest that the "Spanish Stonehenge" could be not only a temple, but also a place for trade, because it was located not far from the river ford.

Most interestingly, the first description of the building was made back in the mid-1920s by the German amateur archaeologist Hugo Obermeier. But the megalith did not arouse interest among official scientists at that time. The unique building was flooded during the creation of the reservoir in 1963. Now scientists are developing a plan to move the stones to a safer place - they have already begun to collapse from prolonged contact with water.
