But I wonder why there has been, in fact, a "mercury bomb" lying off the coast of Norway for many decades, which can explode at any moment and reach Russia, but Norway does not care about this?
The head of the "Union of Nature Conservation of Norway" Kurt Oddekalv has been sounding the alarm for several years because of the German submarine U-864 sunk off the coast of Bergen in 1945 with a 65-ton cargo of metallic mercury in metal bottles and tons of uranium oxide on board.
A potential "mercury bomb" could destroy the ecology of not only the North Sea, but the entire Arctic.
Yesterday a teleconference was arranged in the Moscow House of the journalist where they discussed this problem and threats. Russian experts and leaders of environmental organizations talked with their Norwegian colleagues and learned all the details. It turns out that Norway wants to take the cheapest route and fill it all up with rubble and sand. However, the "Union for the Conservation of the Nature of Norway" is demanding the cancellation of the absurd decision of its cheapskate ministers and is in favor of raising the ship and its dangerous cargo. At the same time, they ask for support from Russian structures and organizations. This is logical. We are also very interested in this.
God forbid, if a leak of mercury from a sunken German submarine occurs, then the mercury apocalypsis will reach the Russian shores in a few days. By the way, uranium oxide, which was delivered to the United States with one of these submarines, was used by them during the bombardment of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
