A scientist from the United States Patrick McGovern told what kind of wine Jesus Christ could have drunk during the Last Supper. According to him, during the time of Jesus, concentrated wine was often used in Jerusalem.
A specialist from the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology and Anthropology said it was a concentrated drink with spices and pronounced fruity notes. A drink made from pomegranate and mandrake root was common in Jerusalem at that time.
The American scientist also said that about 2 thousand years ago there were only a few types of wine, so it was easy to identify the drink chosen by Jesus. So, in some church scriptures it was said that the wine had the aroma of saffron and cinnamon.
It is worth noting that it was this drink that was brought in ancient times by the Roman legionnaires, who at that time were governors in this territory.
McGovern studied ancient vessels in which drinks were stored: he determines the nature of drinks by the chemical composition of samples taken from the walls of the vessels.
The scientist made several conclusions about the drinks that were drunk by well-known personalities at that time, but he could not determine the drink of the Last Supper.
“If someone can find me the Holy Grail and send it to my laboratory, we can analyze it and tell you,” the specialist emphasized.
The Last Supper is the last meal of Jesus Christ with 12 disciples. An important part of the ritual was the wine that those present drank.
