Constant reports of unexplained luminous objects in the sky have been known to mankind for more than one thousand years. The first mentions of unusual fiery chariots can be found in the Bible. However, the phenomenon gained real interest in the 20th century.
In America, after the sensational incident of the UFO crash in Roswell municipality in 1947, people's interest in this inexplicable phenomenon increased several times. In the same year, military pilot Nathan Twing sent to the Pentagon a detailed report on the contacts of the US Air Force pilots with mysterious objects soaring in the air.
The first projects to study alien intelligence
After the above events, the American authorities decide to create two projects Sign in 1948 and Grudge in 1949. As part of these programs, it was planned to find a scientific explanation for unidentified objects in the sky and assess the likely risks associated with them. The projects have been operating for exactly one year, after which they have been declared ineffective and liquidated.
Blue Book
Already in 1952, the government began work on this topic again and created a project called "Blue Book". The main task of the program is to study the UFO phenomenon. It is worth noting that the very term "unidentified flying object" was introduced by the author of this project - the military Edward Ruppelt.

A former US Air Force pilot, Ruppelt was a classic skeptic whose main goal was to explain mysterious phenomena from a scientific point of view. For this purpose, the famous astronomer of the time, Allen Hynek, was invited to the project.
The scientist was very skeptical about flying objects, at least at the beginning of the study of this phenomenon. After examining several thousand applications for mysterious cases, Hynek changed his mind and admitted that most of them were simply impossible to explain from a scientific point of view.
In total, during this study from 1952 to 1969, more than 12 thousand UFO reports were considered. The answer to the lion's share of them was simple and obvious - people saw weather balloons, US Air Force exercises, or ordinary natural phenomena.
Results of work
The official conclusion based on the results of a 20-year study was as follows: the UFO phenomenon has no extraterrestrial origin. It should be noted here that among the thousands of appeals that were easily explained from the scientific point of view, 701 cases remained unsolved. The scientist himself admitted that he still cannot say what people actually saw.
After the closure of the Blue Book program, the scientist in 1973 created his own UFO study center and continued to seek answers to questions that have worried mankind for several thousand years.
