A pagan temple, comparable in value to Stonehenge, was found at an ancient burial site in the Swedish province of Skane
This discovery was made by a group of amateur archaeologists. The first find was a Greek phallic symbol made about 3,000 years ago.
In addition, inscriptions in Greek and Phoenician are carved on the gravestones, which means the presence of merchants from Ancient Greece. Thus, the place had not only cult but also commercial significance. In the course of further research, using scanners, a map of structures located under the layer of the earth was compiled.
It is curious that some of the structures resemble pyramids and, judging by their location, can serve as an astronomical calendar. Archaeologists note that the preservation of this place of worship is amazing thanks to the soft soil mixed with sand. “This place is a veritable gold mine; perhaps the best-preserved site of its kind in the world. Once excavated, it will become one of the magnets for tourists in Scandinavia,”said group leader Bob Lind.
However, the excavation site is located on the territory of the reserve, where any archaeological research is prohibited. However, scientists hope to be able to obtain permission from local authorities to conduct further excavations.
