There is a place in the Loknyansky district of the Pskov region, the existence of which local residents prefer to keep silent: over the decades, the people have a belief that those who talk a lot about him will certainly die soon. And these fears are not without foundation over the past 50 years, the village, which is only 20 kilometers from the regional center, has practically died out. And the worst thing is that many did not die of their own.
The first loud conversations about the local phenomenon began even before the Great Patriotic War. Once, two teenagers who were helping a shepherd find cows that had strayed from the herd and lost in the forest, went deep into the thicket (where, however, they knew, it seems, every bush). ' Hearing a cow's roar, the teenagers quickened their pace and discovered a huge clearing with charred earth. Before their eyes, the cows, who had already reached the middle of the clearing, suddenly burst into flames and fell into the ground.
In fear, the teenagers ran to the village and told their parents about the unusual killer meadow. The grandfather of one of the boys recalled that when he was a teenager, his father said that in those parts of the forest there was a huge funnel hole that terrified the locals.
The legends that, of course, fanned this place, were one more terrible than the other. It was said that passages lead from the funnel to the side, which, in turn, pass into the suite of rooms, that at night strange creatures emerge from there and abduct small children. That even on a bright sunny day there is fog over the meadow and some strange shadows flicker - either dwarf people, or animals. That the one who steps into this clearing disappears without a trace (however, some then return, but for several years after a walk in the forest they are, as it were, under hypnosis: inhibited speech, memory loss, etc.). It was also said that once, many centuries ago, there was a huge castle in which a family of one of the Russian princes lived, but once, in a strong thunderstorm, dozens of lightning strikes suddenly struck this place, and the castle literally fell underground in a matter of minutes …
Over time, around the "bad" glade, a ring of dried bushes and trees, tightly intertwined with branches, formed around the "bad" glade: so that you can get into the clearing only by cutting this natural "fence" with an ax.
The funnel in the clearing seemed to be "tightened", no one else fell through there, but a long stay in this zone cost others their lives. Especially rich "tribute" was collected by the clearing among the animals. The vegetation on it was very dense and lush and had, perhaps, some special effect on them: having got the "prey", the glade would not let go of its prey. Animals and birds died here, but did not decompose for years, and their meat acquired a special bright red hue …
The villagers pulled out the dead cows and sheep with hooks from the clearing, burying them nearby, and the birds and other wild animals lay there until only bones remained from their bodies over the years.
The anomalous field, which was established in the area of the black place, seemed to expand from time to time, capturing the unfortunate village in its "nets" and, apparently, influencing the psyche of its inhabitants. Suddenly, without any reason, fights broke out between the neighbors, which inevitably ended in someone's death, cattle died for no apparent reason, fires broke out.

Many tried to leave here, but, having gathered, it was on the road and even having driven several tens of kilometers, they turned back: some unknown force was driving them back, home.
Meanwhile, the killer glade collected its annual tribute with enviable consistency: it seems that every inhabitant of this and other villages in the region already knew about it and tried to avoid it, but still fell into a trap. Some disappeared without a trace in the forest, others remained forever lying in the clearing …
Those who were pulled out of the clearing and buried were said to have died not from bodily harm (there were no visible wounds on the body). Rather, they were killed by some inexplicable horror, which at the moment of death left a stamp on their faces.
However, during the Second World War, local residents believed that the local phenomenon saved many lives: for inexplicable reasons, the village was not occupied by the Germans. Having passed through it on a march, German troops were stationed in other villages, and the command seemed to have forgotten about this village …
In the 1960s, after hearing about local miracles, several expeditions came to these lands, but only one managed to return in full force. What happened to them, the adventurers were silent, but for some inexplicable reason, their hair fell out, they were tormented by severe headaches, and one girl was covered from head to toe with small, match-head sores and eventually died in a local hospital from unknown disease …
A new burst of activity of the anomalous zone belongs to the same years: sometimes at night over the forest in the sky rays flashed, hitting exactly the place where the clearing was located, and during the day bizarre mirages appeared over the village, terrifying the locals.
Sometimes at night the watchmen who were guarding the collective farm herd noticed that luminous points-stars were moving across the sky, from which from time to time "silver rain" fell - a sheaf of sparks that dissolved in the night sky, never reaching the ground.
A few years later, the local river became shallow, and then the local river completely went underground. Its bed was quickly overgrown with tall grass that had a strange green tint. Insects avoided these strange thickets, and only the wind lazily touched the tufts of grass and the sun tried to burn out this unearthly vegetation.
Time passed, and the zone released its victims. Most of the villagers moved to other villages, young people preferred to leave for the cities altogether, away from the lost place. The village is completely deserted, and only abandoned houses now remind of those who lived here.
The rumor about the killer meadow still lives among the locals, but only the most desperate "outsiders" - usually newcomers who rent houses in neighboring villages for the summer, dare to go in search of it. Alas, many of them still find themselves perishing in the local forests: adventurism of this kind without special preparation, as you know, is dangerous.
