Sharks began to mutate. What does it mean? What will hybrid sharks be like now?
For the first time in the world, scientists have discovered an unusual hybrid shark. Rather, marine researchers found several such sharks at once in the waters of Australia. According to scientists, the fact that hybrid species began to appear in the animal kingdom could affect the ecosystem of the entire globe.
The sharks found in Australia turned out to be a cross between common blacktip sharks and Australian blacktip sharks. The hybrid is characterized by greater endurance and quick adaptation to extreme conditions. Hybrid sharks tolerate water that is too cold or, conversely, too warm. Scientists also believe that these sharks are much stronger and more aggressive than regular sharks.
In total, scientists have found about 57 hybrid sharks in a water area 200 kilometers from Queensland to New South Wales.
Dr Jess Morgan says: “This is mind-boggling. Sharks are a very strong species of animals and any hybridization with them is in principle excluded. They never mate with other species. Sharks have always been very clear and strict in this regard. The Australian blacktip shark and the common blacktip shark are two completely different shark species, they are practically competitors. In theory, the emergence of a hybrid of these two species is simply impossible."
According to some marine biologists, hybrid sharks appeared deliberately with the sole purpose of becoming stronger and more resilient and adapting to living in extreme conditions for them.
The first hybrid shark was caught yesterday, January 3, 2012. Scientists will continue to study these unusual hybrid sharks.
