Probably, each of us remembers from the books we read and the films we watched that even the enemies tried to fulfill the last wish of a person before his death, for example, they gave him a drink and a smoke before being shot or hung. It turns out that this idea can be used for charitable purposes as well.

This is exactly what the Dutch nurse Ineke Veldboer and her husband Kees, the driver of the ambulance, did. Once they came up with this simple (and therefore brilliant) idea, why not organize a charitable organization that will fulfill the last, most secret desires of people before death? This is how the company "Stichting Ambulance Wens Nederland" appeared, whose main task was to fulfill the last, and therefore the most touching wishes of people.

Today, their charity SAWN is eight years old. During this time, the company has grown significantly stronger, more than two hundred volunteers have joined its ranks, the Veldboer couple now have their own boarding house with several ambulances. In addition, they constantly receive substantial sums of money - voluntary donations from citizens of Holland and even other countries, which allows them to carry out their plans, and at the highest professional level. In total, over the years, the company has fulfilled almost eight thousand all kinds of wishes of the dying.

As Ineke says, people on the brink of death have mostly simple desires. That is why Stichting Ambulance Wens Nederland manages to serve three to four clients a day. Working with the dying in this way, the woman confesses, is very interesting, good for the soul and even pleasant. Ultimately, you begin to understand that people are not afraid of death, they just want to leave this world with the best memories of it. For this reason, the performers of these simple desires themselves become brighter and wiser.

What the dying want

Here are just a few of the many thousands of wishes fulfilled that make SAWN organizers proud of their work.
