To permanently close the page of the bloody past associated with the drug lord Pablo Escobar and his cartel, the Colombian government destroyed his estate in Medellin, where Escobar himself, his family and accomplices once lived.

Pablo was assassinated in 1993, but the mansion itself has remained empty since 1988 when Escobar's rivals forced him to leave the house. Many people gathered to watch the demolition of the house, and some claimed that not long before the building was demolished, they saw a ghostly figure. Some said that it was the ghost of one of the victims of the drug lord, while others believed that he himself had come to take a last look at his property.

The building was demolished by an explosion. Rogelio Gomez, the engineer who carried out the demolition, used 180 rounds to destroy the eight-story concrete structure called Monaco. It contained twelve apartments, two swimming pools, a tennis court, a warehouse and 34 parking spaces, occupied mostly by Escobar's collection of cars and motorcycles.

After his death, the crime rate in the area dropped dramatically, and numerous tourists began to come here to see the mansion as a landmark. Some tours have been conducted by former henchmen of Escobar, including one of his best hitmen - John Jairo Popeye Velasquez.

As for the figure seen before the demolition of the building, opinions differed. It was said that it was one of the builders. But no one announced the death of the worker. At the same time, local residents were sure that many cruel and bloody events took place in this building, and no one was particularly surprised by the appearance of a ghost.

There is a video of the demolition of the mansion, in which you can really distinguish something that has a distant resemblance to a human figure. But it is too distant, and what is mistaken for a ghost looks more like a rectangle in shape. Given that the building was uninhabited for a long time, those less inclined to believe in ghosts believe that it could be a piece of cardboard or some other material, stirring in the wind.

On the site where the drug lord's mansion once stood, the Colombian government intends to open a memorial park in memory of his many victims. Colombian President Ivan Duque said that with the end of this mansion, hope begins. He noted that, unfortunately, it is impossible to change the past, but everything must be done to make the present and future better.

There are also those who believe that the creation of a park in this place will not be the best solution, since the place is already inhabited by ghosts, and the opening of the memorial can attract even more of them, which will negatively affect the local residents and the entire district.
