British archaeologists have discovered several graves from the third century BC, which contained the remains of people buried under mysterious circumstances. This is reported by the Gizmodo edition.
In one of the graves lay the body of a young man aged 17-25. He was a warrior, however, according to scientists, his death was due to natural causes. Examination of the remains showed that before burial, five spears with iron tips and four with bone ones were driven into it. A strong blow was dealt to the skull with a blunt weapon. Archaeologists believe that this ritual symbolized the second death, which is worthy of a warrior. According to an alternative hypothesis, people were afraid of resurrecting the dead, and the spears were supposed to prevent this.
In the second grave, 55 meters from the first, the remains of an elderly man 60-70 years old were found. He was buried in a chariot with two horses. Scientists believe that the animals were first buried in half so that they could not move, and then beheaded. The severed heads were probably placed on the grave so that they would "guard" the deceased. The man's body was in the fetal position. A bronze brooch and a shield made of bronze, wood and leather were also placed in the grave. Archaeologists also found bones from pigs that were eaten during a funeral feast.
