Cages for the Dead (Victorian Era)
In the Victorian era, there were all sorts of scary traditions. So, cells were created for the dead. It feels like this is a protection against escape. Below is an ordinary grave with a gravestone, and on the ground there is a cage. Perhaps, in this way, the dead were protected from grave diggers.
Rosalia Lombardo (1918 - 1920, Capuchin Catacombs in Italy)
The father of two-year-old Rosalia Lombardo, who died of pneumonia, did not want to lose his baby. He paid the embalmer to mummify the child. Now, like a doll in a transparent package, the girl lies in a glass coffin. Death occurred in 1920, Alfredo Salafia replaced the girl's blood with formaldehyde, treated the body with salicylic acid and filled the coffin with nitrogen, today this grave causes goosebumps.
Lilly Gray (1881-1958, Salt Lake City Cemetery, USA)
Everything in this grave is quite normal, but only for the inattentive. Let's read the inscription and turn to the numbers - 666. This translates as "the victim of the beast 666", it is interesting that the beast in this case is the state - the US government. It was power that Elmer Gray called the murderer of his wife Lilly.

Taira no Masakado (940, Japan)
In Tokyo, everyone knows about the samurai Masakado, he lived in the Heian era and became the leader of the uprising against the rule of Kyoto. A samurai was executed for his views in 940, but Masakado's head has not been buried to this day. There is a legend that three months after the execution, the samurai's eyes were still moving. They decided to bury the head, but the city of Tokyo had already been built on this land. To this day, the grave is cherished by the authorities and residents of the city, no one dares to disturb it.
Mary Shelley (1797 - 1851, St Peter's Chapel, Dorset, England)
Mary's very strange decision was that she wanted to take her husband's heart for herself after his death. The spouse's body was cremated, and the organ was given to his wife. The woman put her heart in a drawer of her desk and asked that after her death, her husband's heart be buried along with her body. Thus, the organ wrapped in the work "Adonai: The Elegy of Death" by John Keats was placed in Mary's grave in 1851. The heart has been in the closet since 1822.
Chase Family Crypt (Barbados)
In the Caribbean, you can see the crypt of the Thomas Chase family. This man died in 1813, and when he was brought into the crypt, it turned out that all the coffins in it were not in their place. Before Thomas, two-year-old Mary died, she was buried in 1808, and after that the marble door was firmly closed with cement. After Thomas was buried, the coffins were returned to their places and the entrance was closed again. When it came time to bury eleven-year-old Charles, the crypt was opened, it was in 1816, all the coffins were again out of place. The investigation of the strange situation was supervised by the governor of Barbados himself, in 1819 work began. The floors were sprinkled with sand and the door was sealed, but after years the coffins again changed their location, although there were no traces in the sand, no signs of breaking. Since then, no one has opened the crypt, and the governor ordered the coffins to be taken to another place.
Kitty Jay (Devon, England)
The little grassy mound is Jay's grave. The woman committed suicide in the late 1700s, and the Church could not allow burial in the cemetery, so the grave is located at a crossroads. It is believed that just such a place will allow the soul to find its way to heaven.
Ines Clark (1873 - 1880, Chicago, USA)
At the age of 6, Ines died from a lightning strike, this happened in 1880. The parents decided to make an unusual monument to their daughter - a sculpture of a girl sitting on a bench with an umbrella and a flower in her hands. The baby is dressed in a lace dress, and this whole composition is placed in a glass cube.
