This is perhaps the second most famous of all abandoned cities in the world after Pripyat. But unlike Chernobyl, this Taiwanese city keeps much more secrets and mysteries. What actually happened there is still unknown to anyone.

The history of the city of Sanzhi dates back to 1975, when the famous politician and military leader Chiang Kai-shek died in Taiwan. In his honor, it was decided to erect several monuments to immortalize the memory of the great leader. One of these monuments was to be a futuristic complex of houses in the form of flying saucers.

Construction began in the 1970s, just 25 kilometers from the capital. According to the plan of the creators, Sanzhi was to become a fashionable and ultra-modern resort for wealthy people. The houses that were the pinnacle of engineering at the time were built from concrete and durable fiberglass. Each of these "flying saucers" could be climbed up an expensive marble staircase, and descended directly into the ocean or into the pool along a water slide from the second floor. The Sanzhi resort was expected to become a famous tourist destination and generate a lot of money.

However, problems started early in the construction phase. Strange accidents began to happen to the workers: some broke their necks, falling from a height even with safety ropes, others died under cranes that had collapsed for no apparent reason, and still others died without any apparent reason.

Among the builders, rumors spread that the place was cursed. Someone recalled the Japanese death camp, as if it was once located here, someone talked about the old Dutch cemetery. Some claimed to have seen ghosts on construction sites who told people to stay away from the black place.

Whether there was anything paranormal in Sanzhi is actually difficult to say. In the early 1980s, when the city was almost ready, and houses were already being painted and ready for delivery, an energy and credit crisis broke out in East Asia, and the developer company went bankrupt. For several years the construction was simply frozen and in 1989 new investors were found for the project, but due to internal disagreements, the already resumed construction was stopped forever.

Be that as it may, the view of the Sanzhi ruins is really creepy …
