Having presented a child with a mobile phone, you turn it into … an antenna!

According to Professor Yuri Grigoriev, the fact that when a cell phone is operating, electromagnetic energy enters the brain is not disputed by anyone, since even during the development of a phone, the human body is considered as an element of the antenna system.

All other things being equal, children are exposed to harsher and more extensive electromagnetic influences than adults: they have a smaller head and a thinner skull. In one experiment, scientists built mock-ups of children's heads, repeating the shapes, typical sizes, layer-by-layer conductivity, and found that, when irradiated, they absorbed 2 to 4 times more electromagnetic energy than the average adult.

In addition, the child's body is more vulnerable and sensitive to environmental factors, especially during certain periods of growth - the so-called windows of susceptibility. Experts have no doubt that the electromagnetic field (EMF) of a cell phone alters the normal functioning of the central nervous system. Considering that in children it is in the process of formation and development, it is easy to understand that its result will differ from normal. In addition, in children, defense mechanisms are not fully formed, primarily such as the immune system. You will have to face this clearly some time later. This can happen years after the onset of chronic exposure, but it will.

The position of the World Health Organization has long been known: EMF can harm a child's health. In addition, during his life he will “take” on himself much more radiation than his parents, who acquired telephones much later than he did.

Before any "emitting" product goes on sale, it takes several years to study all its features in order not to release an "electromagnetic bomb" to the people. However, with the introduction of cellular communications, there were virtually none. Today, among all the countries developing cellular communications, only Russia does not have a national program for studying its biological effect. Our specialists have to rely on foreign data. Although experimental research directly on children cannot be carried out by definition, scientists have at their disposal the results of experiments on animals and observations of users in adults and children. The data obtained are seriously alarming.

So, in 2001 in the Neurodiagnostic Scientific Institute in Spain, they found that 11-13-year-old children who talked on a cell phone for two minutes, the change in the bioelectric activity of the brain persists for another two hours after they hang up. A study at the University of Bristol in the UK last year showed a significant increase in response time in 10-11 year olds using a GSM mobile phone. Finns obtained similar results at the University of Turku, observing a group of children aged 10-14.

Stewart's group - experts appointed by the UK government - believe that cell phone EMF significantly weakens a child's immune system, making the child's body even less resistant to the chronic adverse effects of EMF.

The most serious horror story was given by Swedish scientists from the Institute of Hygiene, who received data on an increased risk of developing brain tumors in the age group 20-29 years old when using analog and cordless phones for 5-10 years. For other age categories, no such relationship was found. These data show that those who use phones from 10-19 years of age are much more at risk of developing a brain tumor than those who purchased a phone at 29 or later.

In our country, mobile phones appeared only about ten years ago. But, according to rough estimates, three million children are already using them. In one of the communication salons, they remembered that the youngest customer was 8 years old. Last year alone, the share of users under 18 increased from 37% to 62%. This is the most promising group of consumers: children and teenagers are happy to buy cases, replacement panels and other accessories for their phones. It is on them that operators are guided when they come up with all sorts of ways to lure customers: cheat sheets, quizzes, phone acquaintances. One company organized the Feed the Animal service at the Moscow Zoo. On the animal cages there were signs with inscriptions urging children not to poke food into the cage, but to transfer money to the account of the zoo: “Your food will not suit the animal, it is better to transfer him $ 0,5 for food by the specified short number”. Every year, Russian mobile operators make children 10% of their revenue - about $ 500 million.

While in our country the marketing policy of operators is increasingly tilting towards the young, overseas governments, listening to the opinion of WHO and experts, are taking measures to limit the spread of mobile phones among children. Back in 2001, the European Parliament's Research Directorate called for a ban on the use of cell phones by children under adolescence and advertising aimed at children "so as not to generate interest in cellular communications too early." Europe reacted to the recommendation:

UK 2001: No use of cell phones in schools; when selling them, information brochures are put into the box about the possible consequences of communication on mobile phones;

France, 2002: the government urged parents to control how much time their children talk on their cell phones;

Germany, 2002: The Association for Environmental Medicine recommended that the government introduce a state ban on the use of mobile phones by children and restrictions on adolescents.

Mobile phones are dangerous for children

According to representatives of the Russian National Committee for Protection against Non-Ionizing Radiation, for the first time there is a situation when children and adolescents are massively exposed to the electromagnetic field of mobile phones, which is unfavorable to health.

The electromagnetic field is a biotropic factor that determines not only health, but also directly the processes of higher nervous activity, including the behavior and thinking of people. When using a mobile phone, the user's brain is exposed to an electromagnetic field, Russian experts say.

Despite the fact that the Sanitary Rules and Regulations recommend restricting the use of mobile phones by persons under 18 years of age (SanPiN 2.1.8 / 2.2.4.1190-03, clause 6.9), children and adolescents have become a target marketing group for the cellular market.

The current safety standards for mobile phones are designed for adults and do not take into account the peculiarities of the child's body. The World Health Organization considers the protection of children's health from the possible negative effects of the electromagnetic field of cell phones as a top priority. This problem has also been confirmed by the Scientific Committee of the European Commission, the national authorities of the countries of Europe and Asia, international scientific conferences of specialists on the biological effects of the electromagnetic field.

The potential risk for the health of children, according to representatives of the RNCPNI, is very high. The absorption of electromagnetic energy in the head of a child is much higher than that of an adult (the brain tissue of children has a higher conductivity, smaller head size, thin bones of the skull, a smaller distance from the antenna to the head, etc.). A child's body is more sensitive to the electromagnetic field than an adult. The brain of children has a great tendency to accumulate adverse reactions in conditions of repeated exposure to an electromagnetic field. The electromagnetic field influences the formation of the processes of higher nervous activity. Modern children use mobile phones from an early age and will continue to use them as adults, therefore, the experience of contact of children with electromagnetic radiation will be significantly longer than that of modern adults.

According to the members of the Russian National Committee for the Protection against Non-Ionizing Radiation, the following possible immediate disorders should be expected in children using mobile phones: weakened memory, decreased attention, decreased mental and cognitive abilities, irritability, sleep disturbance, tendency to stress reactions, increased epileptic readiness.
