Scientists from Japan managed to create a miracle laser that can make the world a better place. It allows you to erase disturbing memories from your memory, informs Science.
The tests were carried out on rodents. Experts have linked painful memories of animals to specific tastes. First, the mouse drank a sweet solution, then lithium chloride was injected into it, which caused nausea. Then the mice were taught that a certain sound was followed by a current discharge. Hearing familiar sounds, the mouse froze.
After that, the specialists turned on the same sound while the mouse was eating sweet water. As a result, she began to freeze as soon as she started drinking.
Then the scientists needed to share these memories. To do this, they used optogenetics - a technique in which light affects specific areas of the brain.
Scientists turned on and off, using laser equipment, special neurons, making sure that the mouse stopped freezing while continuing to eat.
Experts are pleased with the results, they argue that the device will help treat patients with PTSD. This laser will sever the connection between the painful experience and the trigger - the event that causes the memory to return to the unpleasant burdening memory over and over again.
