Ethiopia is not just a small country located in Africa. She has a very rich ancient history. There are also such artifacts, the purpose of which researchers still cannot understand.

In a place called Tia, 36 strange stone steles can be seen, which depict strange symbols and drawings. Archaeologists believe that once they all formed a single ancient complex.

It is worth noting that official science discovered these steles only at the beginning of the last century. It is noteworthy that there is no text on them at all - only drawings, some of which cannot be deciphered.

Many ancient burials have been found in this area. And the age of the steles themselves is unknown to archaeologists. Who installed them and when is also a mystery. They are currently protected by UNESCO.

By the way - under them in the ground, archaeologists have found burials, which contained the remains of people in a sitting position. Together with the remains, many ancient artifacts from basalt and obsidian were found.

At the moment, all of them can be seen within the walls of the National Museum. Unfortunately, the local winds are doing their job and not all steles have been well preserved to this day.

The climate here is not the most favorable for the preservation of such antiquities. Some of them lie on the ground and split long ago. Some of the steles depict strange wide swords.

Archaeologists suggested that the sword in this case was a marker indicating the social status of a person buried under the stele - perhaps it was a warrior.

In addition, on many stelae not one image of a sword was found, but several - from 1 to 13 pieces. According to another version, here the number of swords indicated the number of battles in which the deceased participated.

Researchers believe that the steles were built by different craftsmen and they were erected at a time when a mysterious civilization existed on the territory of Ethiopia, which is still unknown to official science.

Perhaps in these burials were those who reached the top in moving up the social ladder of that time. It is also interesting that such steles are not the only ones in Ethiopia.

In total, archaeologists have discovered about a hundred places with similar stones. And they are scattered over a large territory, which suggests that in ancient times all these lands could belong to one powerful state.

What kind of state it was - the researchers have yet to find out, but their mere presence already suggests that the history of this small country is much more ancient and interesting than previously thought.

These steles are considered sacred by local tribes. However, the natives are not too talkative and in no hurry to reveal the secrets of their history to white archaeologists.
