Not far from Sevastopol in the Balaklava region during the Crimean War of the middle of the nineteenth century, and specifically on the night of November 14 (new style) in 1854, during an unprecedented storm, the English sail-screw ship "Prince" sank, which will therefore be called "black", and even "gold".

The fact is that on that fateful day there were two hundred pounds sterling in gold on this ship - this was the salary for the British military stationed at that time in Balaklava. And since then, neither the ship nor its riches have been found. Attempts to find the sunken treasure were made repeatedly, and not only from the side, for example, of the young Soviet state, the Germans, the French, the Norwegians, and even the Japanese, with their modern technology, tried to find the legendary "Black Prince" at the bottom of the Black Sea. But all is in vain.

And now a new expedition of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, together with the Sevastopol State University, intends to continue the search for the "Prince", and this campaign is scheduled for this summer. As Viktor Lebedinsky, an employee of the Institute of Oriental Studies and a future participant in this expedition, says, the ship, apparently, is at a great depth, which is at least eighty meters. For this reason, the "Black Prince" has not yet been discovered - all other expeditions were guided by the fact that the ship sank immediately upon leaving the Balaklava Bay - they were looking there. But in 2016, Russian scientists - researchers of the depths of the Black Sea - found the remains of some ships that also became victims of that terrible storm of 1854, and therefore there is a hope that the legendary "Prince" lies somewhere there.
