In the fall of 1928, a strange cylindrical object flew over the Karelian village of Shchuknavolok, which is one hundred and twenty kilometers from Petrozavodsk, and crashed into Vedlozero, on the banks of which the village is located.
This unusual phenomenon was observed by about fifty residents of Shchuknavolok and the nearby village of Vedlozero. Subsequently, as local residents say, for many decades they have witnessed the following one after another amazing events, one way or another, in their opinion, connected with this "incident".
The event of 1928 became widely known thanks to the stories of one of the eyewitnesses - a local resident Fyodor Petrovich Yegorov. He was nine years old that year, but his boyish memory retained everything to the smallest detail. He shared his memories more than once, after more than half a century, both with ufologists and philologists who collect folklore.
“The incident became known to the NKVD,” Fyodor Petrovich said, “and almost immediately (in 1929) a special group arrived in Shchuknavolok. Security officers cordoned off the area of the incident. Perhaps it was assumed that this could be an attack by an enemy weapon, perhaps our tests were of some kind. Therefore, everything was kept in the strictest secret: there were times - you know yourself … There was no technique to properly examine the bottom of the lake, and even more so to raise an object to the surface. It was only known that it lies about seventy centimeters from the surface of the water - boys swam there and fishermen stood on it, removing their nets."
What exactly, what such "details" did the boy Fedya Egorov see in November 1928?
Fyodor Petrovich said that on the evening of November 15, a huge, the size of a peasant house, a smooth cylinder of the correct appearance, appeared from behind a forest. He flew past him in three hundred meters - completely silently and at a very low speed, contrary to all the laws of physics. Vedlozero, by that time, was already covered with ice.
“The cylinder broke through the ice and fell into the water behind the island, opposite Shchuknavolok,” testified Fyodor Petrovich. - The wave that rose from the fall of a heavy object swept away part of the island. Thus, thanks to the island, the village of Shchuknavolok escaped the fate of being flooded. In general, there was a feeling that the place of the fall was just behind the island - it was no coincidence that this object was not of natural origin and was controlled by someone.
The depth of the lake in this place is seven to eight meters, and the object has just not protruded above the water. In this regard, our local fishermen had to move their gear from their usual place to the side of the island - it clung to the nets”.

By the method of elimination, we can affirmatively say that this object could not be a meteorite. The meteorite is not characterized by such gentle trajectories and such a low rate of fall. In addition, an analysis of the world "Catalog of Meteorites and Fireballs" showed that in 1928 only twenty fireballs and five meteorites were recorded; the "closest" of them fell far from these places - in the south of Ukraine
“But maybe this object of terrestrial origin was a kind of gas-plasma formation?” - scientists are asking. The magnetic radiation of the Earth and the occurrence of iron ore in these places, the state of the atmosphere at that time (temperature, lighting, activity of the sun) could presumably "create" specific conditions under which the formation of a certain electromagnetic system, forming a stable field structure, is possible. However, this assumption also contradicts what he saw. The riddle of Vedlozero remains unsolved.
Beginning in the summer of 1933, strange things began to happen in the village of Shchuknavolok. It all started when a strange "gelatinous rain" fell on the village in 1933. This mass covered an area of about fifty square meters in the village.
What kind of mass it was, no one understood, somehow only the local healer Maria Lvovna Agarkova managed to figure it out. On her advice, local residents began to collect an incomprehensible mass in bottles and … use it as an external medicine. They said that even during the Great Patriotic War, this medicine helped to heal wounds.
Starting from the same year, local residents began to meet on the shore of the lake a strange creature of one meter in height, seemingly thin, big-headed. His body and arms were disproportionately long, while his legs, on the contrary, were short. The attire, according to the description, resembled a tight-fitting jumpsuit. The creature usually sat quietly on the shore. At first the local children threw stones at him, then they got used to it. And the observation of this strange creature continues to this day!
Since about 1937, on the water of Vedlozero, next to the island, behind which an incomprehensible object fell, from time to time, multi-colored glowing circles of ideal shape, with a radius of three to ten meters, began to appear. Sometimes these circles pulsed, sometimes "whirled" around an invisible center.
Surprisingly, this phenomenon is told by people who saw it not only in the thirties of the last century, but also in subsequent years, moreover, they are observing it now. But the most amazing thing - they claim that the appearance of these circles affects the work of televisions and radios - failures begin. The research expeditions that came there once witnessed this and were convinced that this was not just talk.
And expeditions to the village of Shchuknavolok are often visited. True, one of the first expeditions, the scientific leader of which was a university lecturer, Doctor of Philology, Professor Evgeny Mikhailovich Neelov, arrived there in September 1988 with a purely philological purpose, it was a folkloric practice.
“There were mostly girls in the group. And only two young men. The girls diligently collected the folklore that they recorded there, and the boys seemed to be doing nothing special. But it was they who "unearthed" the amazing grandfather-blacksmith, the very same Fedor Yegorov and, as it turned out later, collected the most interesting material. The guys were so inspired by the discovery that, as a result, an article on this topic appeared in the newspaper,”Evgeny Neelov said later.
Scientists and television people constantly visit the inhabitants of the village of Shchuknavolok to this day. An expedition headed by the chairman of the Petrozavodsk Committee for the Study of Sphinx Anomalous Phenomena, ufologist Alexei Popov, went there again in 2008. He was one of the two guys who "unearthed" Fedor Yegorov in 1988.
Popov's research group included famous people in Karelia - psychologists Anatoly Zhuravsky and Eldar Safarov, ufologist Viktor Paaso.
Alexey Popov has devoted many years to the study of the Vedlozero phenomenon. He began to get involved in ufology as a student, and in this regard, as was customary in the USSR, he immediately fell into the field of vision of the state security authorities. He was offered cooperation, he refused, but the retired lieutenant colonel of the KGB was still attached to Popov. As a result, they became friends and are still friends. It was he who told the Researcher in the late 80s that the NKVD archives contain memories of the incident in Shchuknavolok.
The 2008 expedition set off for Shchuknavolok not only because mysterious and inexplicable phenomena continue to occur in this village, but also because Fyodor Petrovich Yegorov's cousin Maria Ivanovna Stafeeva still lived there.
“Yes, everything was right with Fedya,” she confirms. - People here then visited because of this - do not count! Expeditions from all over the country. They will come, camp, look for something in the lake. Once I wanted to see - what they get from the bottom, what is so beautiful on the oilcloth - they did not give it. Secret.
One senses that for her these stories - about the "case with Fedya", about the "jelly", about the little man on the shore - have become "commonplace."
As for the UFOs … Who has not seen them in the vicinity of Vedlozero? It seems that there are simply none!
“Yes, here and now someone is constantly observing something,” Maria Ivanovna casually told the participants of one of the last expeditions to us. - I saw not so long ago: such a “carrot” floats across the sky, like on Mother Volga, throwing out glowing balls … We still laughed that our men ran to catch these balls on School Island … There was a lot of that. Once a huge staircase rested against the sky … Strange circles, sometimes they glow in the sky … Go to my neighbor Pechenkina, she will also tell you!"
Neighbor Elena Pechenkina told the expedition members about the classic flying saucer, shimmering with all the colors of the rainbow: “My husband and I saw it this spring, in March, we stood on the shore for about five minutes, probably. After that I immediately got very sick with arthritis ….
And in early April 2008, another observation of the "strange heavenly guest" took place. Eyewitnesses, all as one, talk about a large luminous ball that moved across the sky, leaving a white winding trail behind it. It was not possible to establish the "identity" of the heavenly guest - either a meteorite, or a man-made rocket, or an alien intelligence. So the exclusive collection of “Vedlozero miracles” was replenished with another amazing event.
Residents of several villages located around Vedlozero observed a certain celestial body, which was much larger and brighter than ordinary "shooting stars". The balloon flew by, and the windows in the houses of these settlements were shaking. The event made such a strong impression on the people that they reported it to the local rescue service.
“I saw a bright ball flying, and a white trail was behind it,” said one of the eyewitnesses. - Two flashes flashed, and the ball disappeared. I regretted that I did not have a camera with me, the spectacle was amazing beauty! Maybe it was some kind of celestial body, but I think that, most likely, something artificial."
The stories of other eyewitnesses boiled down to the description of the sparkling plate. But some added more "swinging doors" and "strange creatures emerging from them."
To the question: what exactly was it? - can not answer, of course, none of the eyewitnesses. One can only assume: a rocket, a meteorite, a UFO …
Those scientists with a purely materialistic disposition explain all the mysterious phenomena around Vedlozero, including the events of 200, by the fact that on that day the Besovets Aviation Regiment conducted flight technical exercises in those places. It might look fantastic from the ground. Great explanation! Quite in the spirit of modern science.
Apparently, in 1928, one of the planes of that time simply crashed into the lake, which also conducted some kind of exercises …

The locals - residents of the village of Vedlozero and the village of Palalakhty, located thirty kilometers from Vedlozero - turned in 2008 to the Karelian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
They reported that they constantly see unidentified flying objects. General stories boil down to the description of the "classic plate". And all observers add more "swinging doors" and "strange creatures emerging from them."
