In Turkey, when examining the temple of Zeus in the municipality of Chavdarisar, archaeologists discovered about 400 previously unknown drawings of Byzantines and Turkic tribes.

According to the Daily Sabah, we are talking about a temple in the ancient city of Aizana, which is called the second Ephesus. Excavations began in 1926, but archaeologists are still making interesting discoveries.

This year they found about 400 drawings of the Byzantines and the Turkic tribe Chavdar, dated to the XII-XIII centuries. This suggests that the Turks and Byzantines lived together in the city during the post-Roman period.

“The Temple of Zeus was used by the Byzantines as a church during the monotheistic period, so crosses were depicted on all the walls,” said expedition leader Dr. Elif Ozer. “We found hundreds of crosses carved with nails and other sharp objects. The text of a prayer to Mary - the mother of Jesus was also discovered.

Drawings of the Turkic tribe Chavdar depict battle scenes - mainly with the participation of horsemen. Moreover, their own warriors were depicted in a larger size than enemy soldiers.

In addition, an altar was found at the entrance to the temple, created in the ancient Roman period. Scientists have established that under the Byzantines it was converted into a baking oven.
