During archaeological work on the site of the ancient ruins of the Vishnu temple in Singrawi, Madhya Pradesh, Indian scientists discovered a brick on which an unusual pattern was scratched.

This drawing, in their opinion, depicts a person in clothes uncharacteristic for India and the same strange headdress that looks like a cap or helmet. On the face of a person, you can also see something like a beard and this also indicates that this is a foreigner, Indians usually did not wear beards.

The patterned brick was dated and was found to have been made about 1300 years ago. Whom could the ancient locals portray like that? Perhaps some foreigner really got here in those years and surprised the Indians with something, in honor of which he was captured on a brick. Unusual, but likely.

However, the reaction of the authorities to this find was very strange. Immediately after the discovery of the brick, the entire Vishnu temple exploration project was closed at the request of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the government body responsible for overseeing ancient monuments.

According to the Times of India journalists, "some of the ASI employees were very concerned about the mysterious design on the brick."

The ruins of the Vishnu temple stand in an area that was inhabited by people more than 2 thousand years ago, and archaeologists found this place quite by accident. Last year, there were rumors that the villagers were taking away ancient bricks for their buildings, and after that archaeologists decided to investigate this place. They then found out that these were not just ruins, but the ancient temple of Vishnu. More than 200 local residents worked on the excavations in 2019, helping archaeologists and for everyone the sudden closure of such a large study was like snow on their heads.

Officially, the notice sent by ASI stated that the permit to conduct archaeological research in the area of the Singrauli temple was canceled due to "unauthorized excavations".

That is, the brick was probably found where it was not allowed to dig. However, according to local archaeologists, as soon as they receive permission to work in a specific place, it is no longer necessary to ask for any additional permits or prohibitions on certain special places. This has always been the case before.

According to journalists, the case was precisely in the discovered brick, the drawing on which did not fit into the historical worldview of ASI.

In addition to bricks with an unusual pattern, archaeologists found during excavations a very rare and old statue of Vishnu and other artifacts, and in addition they found confirmation that in those days there was a very large and lively city with several temples and monasteries - a rare thing for this region.
