The eggs of a fossil animal, supposedly about 90 million years old, were found on the banks of the Don River by students from the Kamensk Secondary School No. 2 (Voronezh Region)
In the Voronezh region, schoolchildren have discovered an amazing find: fossilized dinosaur eggs. One of the eggs is perfectly preserved and is of great scientific value.
Schoolchildren of the Kamensk secondary school N 2 discovered a sensational find during a "lesson in nature", which was arranged for them by the biology teacher Natalya Bogdanova.
“We walked on the banks of the Don, not far from the village of Marki,” Natalya Aleksandrovna told Izvestia. - There are a lot of chalk deposits, and the guys usually look for pieces of chalk, from which they make figures. Suddenly, someone stumbled upon a strange object, partially "embedded" into the chalk. The guys dug it up and brought it to me. We have found interesting fossils in the chalk before, like sea urchins, but then I immediately realized that these were, oddly enough, dinosaur eggs! We searched and found some more eggs. Almost all are broken, but one is perfectly preserved - it is whole!
According to geologists, the formation of chalk on the territory of this region dates back to the Turonian-Coniacian era, when a prehistoric sea splashed on this place - that is, more than 90 million years ago. After X-ray photography of the surviving egg was carried out, it turned out that the find is really of great value: the embryo of a tailed dinosaur is clearly visible in the picture. There are only a few similar fossils in the world.
“This is a phenomenal find,” Igor Barskov, head of the Department of Paleontology, Moscow State University, told us. Lomonosov. - In Russia, and some ordinary fossils are found a little. And eggs, as far as I know, have not yet been found. So this is a huge piece of luck. Studying this exhibit, scientists will be able to draw a lot of new conclusions regarding that era and its inhabitants.
