Kummakivi is a huge boulder, miraculously balancing on a stone protruding from the ground. The name translates literally as "strange rock". This place is located in the forest near the highway connecting Imatra and Mikkeli.
No one can say where this wonderful example of natural balance came from, but the age of this stone is calculated in thousands of years. There is an assumption that this is a piece of rock that remained in this position since the time of the melting of glaciers.
There is a Finnish legend that many centuries ago there was a feud between humans and forest giants over hunting territory. To put an end to this misunderstanding, the giants erected a large stone in the middle of the forest, marking the beginning of their domain. Neither animals nor people could move him - and so he survived to our time.
Now the mysterious Kummakivi is a favorite destination for travelers. Many people want to capture his greatness and antiquity in a personal photo.
