Scientists from the Shaanxi Institute of Archeology have discovered in a 1400-year-old tomb unique images of a deity from Chinese mythology - Fei Lian, "the master of the wind." The symbols imprinted on the fresco have greatly puzzled researchers, writes the scientific journal Live Science.
“A variety of motives and rich connotations were found on the walls of this tomb. Many of them cannot be found in other graves from the same period,”archaeologists said.
The meaning of some images, as stated in the article, is not entirely clear. For example, in one of the frescoes, the "master of the wind" appears nude. Moreover, it is usually customary to depict him in the form of a blue dragon.
In addition, scientists found a number of murals, which, they say, "provide valuable information about the public life" of China at the time.
The tomb itself, located in the city of Xinzhou, was found by archaeologists back in 2013. The contents of the burial chamber were stolen by robbers, many artifacts were damaged. However, only now have researchers found intact frescoes.
