Russian epidemiologists have recorded the emergence of a new type of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in our country.

According to the head of the laboratory of immunochemistry at the Institute of Virology. Ivanovsky Eduard Karamov, a new strain of the virus was formed due to the mixing of the dominant strain in Russia with a new virus brought in from Central Asia.

As a result of mixing the A61 virus and the AG strain, a new virus called A63 was formed, which is much more dangerous than its "parents".

It is noted that to date, there is no evidence that this strain is more dangerous. This virus just spreads very quickly.

According to scientists, it is now extremely important to monitor the mixing of HIV viruses in order to learn how to combat its spread.

During the meeting of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Karamov proposed to create an interdepartmental commission for the study of the virus, where the RAS would play the main role.

I must say that Russia is among the top ten countries in terms of the number of new HIV infections. In absolute terms, in 2015 Russia was in third place in this rating.

It should be noted that from January 1, 2017, a register of HIV-infected persons will appear in our country. According to Deputy Health Minister Sergei Kraevoy, in addition to passport data, the document will contain data on viral load and response to antiretroviral drugs.
