The position of the US military in East Asia and Europe is weak enough that the US may lose future wars with China or Russia. This is stated in the report of one of the leading think tanks in the United States RAND.
According to the authors of the report, the threat to US national security today comes only from Russia and China, and at the operational and strategic level.
One of the reasons for this state of affairs is the insufficient funding of American troops. “Now it is not so clear whether our military will be able to fulfill the tasks assigned to them,” the document says.
Experts are wondering if the US air force will be able to respond to a possible Russian invasion of the Baltics, given Russia's good air defense systems. “We conclude that NATO is currently unable to defend the Baltic states in the event of a decisive and sudden Russian attack,” the authors of the report write.
In general, the superiority of American troops over Russian and Chinese is recognized. However, it is acknowledged that "US forces, with plausible assumptions, could lose the next war they have to fight."
In early December, the head of the Strategic Command of the US Armed Forces, General John Hayten, accused Russia and China of creating weapons against satellites and thus seeking to change the balance of power on the planet. At the same time, CNN columnist Zachary Cohen predicted that the United States would be defeated by Russia and China as a result of their construction of combat robots and the development of the field of artificial intelligence.
