Many people enjoy watching horror movies just to tickle their nerves. It never occurs to us that most of the scariest stories from the screen have their own real background. Remember the legendary "Psycho" master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock? That's where the great director got his protagonist from.
Plainfield Butcher
Ed Gainey was born into a poor family. The farm, where the boy lived with his parents and brother Henry, was on the outskirts, guests rarely came here. The father of the family drank black, for which his mother simply hated him. In 1940, the alcoholic froze to death and what would later be called the Plainfield Butcher became the head of the family.
Quarrels with brother
The mother raised both sons with her usual religious frenzy. Henry, moreover, was a reasonable man and often entered into confrontation with her, for which Ed, who adored his mother, constantly beat him.

Another death
A year after the fire, Ed's mother also died, and also under rather strange circumstances. The guy himself had already completely moved away from people and rarely appeared in the city, except that he stopped by for groceries. The neighbors preferred to bypass this gloomy farm - they say, let him live as he wants.
The terrible truth
The whole truth about the mysterious farm was revealed in November 1975. A girl disappeared in town, Vernice Warden and some of the neighbors seemed to have seen Ed Gainey not far from her house that day. The police patrol went to the farm to get a statement from Ed. What they saw will never be erased from their memory.
The smell of a maniac
Already on the way to the house a terrible smell of decay hit the policemen in the nose. Alerted, they went inside and just froze in horror. The hallway was full of human bones and the poor patrolmen had a lot of effort to continue examining the house.
Psycho Jewelry
In the living room, at the table, there are two armchairs covered with human skin. The bowls and cups in the kitchen were made from human skulls. In the bedroom, more terrible finds were also found - pants and gloves made of human skin.
Cannibal trophies
The murderer kept the darkest trophies in a separate box. Nine female vaginas, straps of female nipples and the face of a waitress Mary Hogan who disappeared a year ago. Ed Gein made a mask out of it. Vernice Warden, headless, was hanging from a butcher hook in the basement.
Arrest and confession
Then the owner of the house returned. The police had to work hard not to shoot the maniac on the spot. At the trial, Gainey said that he had indeed killed two girls, Vernice and Mary, and dug up the rest of the body in a nearby cemetery.
The fairest court
But Ed Gainey's story doesn't end there. It would seem that apart from the electric chair, a maniac awaits at the trial? However, a compassionate jury found the Plainfield Butcher insane. Gainey went to the hospital, where he died a natural death only in 1984.
