The second part of the animated film "Angry Birds" was released worldwide on August 2. The premiere in Russian cinemas is scheduled for August 15. We offer you from a moral and educational point of view to evaluate the content of the next product of Western animation, which will soon be seen by thousands of young compatriots.
Briefly about the values that the cartoon promotes: The central storyline, using the example of the main characters, shows the importance and effectiveness of working in a friendly strong team, and also teaches you to understand your comrades and give up your own selfishness in order to achieve common goals. The ending of the cartoon is especially remembered for the positive image of the reunited family and the friendship between the former opponents. However, the general silly atmosphere, the constant pedaling of the toilet theme, mockery of the falls and suffering of others, the distortion of social roles in relations between a man and a woman negate the positive potential of the cartoon.

When you watch Western cartoons, you often get the impression that their creators are within certain limits that oblige them, as they say, "to please both ours and yours." Such a feeling arises due to an obvious contradiction, in which absolutely different semantic messages to the viewer are mixed in the same plot - both brightly positive and unequivocally negative.
In the second full-length cartoon about angry birds, this tendency was especially evident. At the beginning of the story, the main character Red is shown as insecure, afraid of loneliness and therefore prone to posturing. He clings to his role as the protector of the Island of Birds, even when it is no longer necessary, and with his own selfishness provokes further enmity with pigs. But in the course of the plot, events push him to realize his inner inconsistency and change. Along with his transformation, the need for the former ostentatious heroism disappears.
Another positive message is revealed through the image of teamwork. Faced with a common threat, pigs and birds have to forget about petty squabbles and unite to save their islands. And if at the beginning each of the members of the team of heroes tries to pull the blanket to their side, then by the end they are ready to pass all the laurels of the winners to each other, as they realize that they have come to success only through joint efforts. The overall positive attitude is complemented by the image of the reunited family of eagles and the correction of the villain.

After watching the cartoon to the end and seeing the joyful final scene, most of the viewers, of course, will leave the cinema with pleasant emotions and in high spirits. But the sweet aftertaste does not mean that the food, albeit informational, was useful. Perhaps a lot of "sugar" was simply added to it, and the rest of the ingredients have a completely different taste, or they may turn out to be completely inedible.

In fact, there are as many positive messages as there are in "Angry Birds 2 Movie", and the same number of negative ones. But they no longer relate to the main storyline, but to the entire background component of the work - we are talking about those numerous details from which the general atmosphere of what is happening is formed. After all, the plot itself can fit into 20-30 minutes of screen time, but what was another hour spent on?
Firstly, it is humor - stupid, base, and sometimes even evil. In the cartoon, someone constantly falls, hits, turns out to be undeservedly offended or insulted. For example, there is an image of a frozen dog that spends the entire cartoon frozen in a piece of ice, but the viewer sees her moving eyes and facial expressions. She is constantly trying to get out of her trap, get to food or chat with her friend - a fur seal. But over and over again some offensive accident occurs, because of which her aspirations are not realized. And this is shown with humor - that is, the audience, and especially children, are taught to laugh at the suffering of the unfortunate animal. What for? Is instilling insensitivity and composure useful in educational terms?
And this is just one example, and there are dozens of such episodes in the cartoon: a pig is badly burned, leaning against a hot pipe, and a phrase about "the smell of bacon" sounds from the screen. The bird-engineer, who did not listen well to the owner of the third island and also the main villainous Zeta, is imprisoned in a torture chamber. Every time when it is necessary to stimulate other subordinates, Zeta talks about what kind of torment the guilty engineer has to endure. But again, the process of torture is shown to the viewer with humor, as well as the endless falls and spanks of all the characters.
Particular disgust is caused by the regular appeal to the toilet theme related to secretions, spitting, emphasis on the fifth point and so on. Here the heroes are smeared with some kind of green slime, after which its creator announces that this special heat-resistant liquid is made of pig snot.
One of the lengthy scenes takes place in the men's room, where the heroes try to steal the key from the guard. The guard himself is emptied at this moment, and for a couple of minutes we hear a continuous sound of pouring urine. Again we see the antics of the heroes forced to “work” in such a delicate environment. But they are not lost and begin to depict a stream of urine with improvised means. In other episodes, we are shown pigs in thongs and some kind of tight women's swimwear, and in the 25th frame a couple of times even flickers of male characters painting their eyelashes or doing makeup.
We need to somehow distract the guards - great, let's move all the heroes to the bar and have a dance with mugs of beer. And we will accompany the final scene with glasses, cocktails and shooting bottles of champagne, on which “Cider” is written. For a complete set, let the main villain dream of a heavenly place where he can enjoy a Margarita cocktail. Is such an immersion in the topic of alcohol necessary in a cartoon? Or the heroes of the children's story cannot drink tea, juice, compote, lemonade with the same success?
But most of all, the absurdity of everything that happens. Of course, the cartoon does not have to be realistic, follow the laws of physics and the like. Still, there must be at least some logic in the actions of the characters. For example, you can show interesting technical solutions, unexpected but plausible ideas, unique natural phenomena, and so on. Instead, the actions of the characters are constantly reigning in complete idiocy. They do stupid things that somehow lead them to "success." Feathered, instead of flying with wings, move with slingshots, firing by themselves. A couple of birds Red and Silver will climb into the ice ball before they have to pour hot lava into it, and they have to urgently escape from the red-hot substance. A fur seal shows romantic feelings for a dog frozen in the ice. A flock of eagles are tormented on the ice island (they wash themselves with ice floes, gnaw frozen food, swim in frozen pools) and do not even try to fly to neighboring lands, which have excellent living conditions.
The general atmosphere of absurdity is complemented by acid colors, constant grimaces of the characters and scenes of tantrums. And the faces of individual characters are generally similar to the images of the mentally ill: huge bulging eyes, protruding tongues, protruding teeth, drooping eyelids. At the very least, this is not aesthetically pleasing, such images will contribute to the development of the child's wrong ideas about beauty.
In modern trends, the relationship between male and female characters is also shown. The viewer is shown the development of romantic stories of two pairs of birds, and in each of them men are depicted as weaker and even stupid characters. Women are represented by strong-willed, strong and more initiative. In life, of course, anything can happen, but recently it is this inharmonious model that has been repeated in most new films, which indicates the advancement of a certain template of gender relations.
When you conduct a detailed analysis of the content of a cartoon, evaluating not only the central storyline, but also those background episodes and images that are repeated dozens of times in an hour and a half (that's why they are remembered best), then not a trace of a good emotional aftertaste remains. You understand that the poisoned "information candy" was once again slipped to the children. But after all, not all adults think about such "details", and children, due to their age-related developmental characteristics, are even less inclined to critical analysis. This means that everything written in this review will remain unfiltered in the memory of most viewers, will be recorded somewhere deep in the subcortex along with these positive emotions caused by laughter and Happy ending. And then it will have a negative impact on the further formation and development of the personality.
Regular viewing of films in which, along with the broadcast of positive examples and correct morality, the characters systematically demonstrate harmful behaviors, has a negative impact on the formation and development of personality. Therefore, it is so important to convey to those around, and especially to the parental public, an objective critical view of modern animation, analyzing those new films that are broadcasted and advertised on television.
