The Katskill Mountains are a mountain range in the northern Appalachian region, located northwest of New York. One of the favorite vacation spots of New Yorkers.

“I would like to tell you about a few unusual things that I encountered in the Catskill Mountains. I grew up on a small farm in a family of hunters and therefore I love hiking and walking in the wild since childhood. I am now 43 years old and I have already managed to climb 17 mountains of the Katskil range.
Possible Yeti
The first unusual incident happened when I was in my 20s, vacationing with my family on a camping site at Livingston Manor. For the first time I took my little son with me and decided to teach him how to fish in the pond. We found an old trail in the forest and walked along it for about 2 miles before reaching an old dam and a house on the shore.
We wanted to ask the owner if it was possible to fish here, but no one lived there. And the whole place seemed deserted and empty, people had not been here for a very long time. We spent the whole day in this place and caught a good fish.

As evening approached, we heard someone's very heavy footsteps in the forest behind us. Sometimes this creature slowed down, and sometimes it walked very quickly. I decided that this was the owner of the old house and he would probably get angry with us and want to drive us away. Therefore, I started to be the first to shout in that direction “Hello! Who's there? . But nobody answered me.
And then even more noisy sounds began to be heard in the bushes elsewhere on the right side. I didn't know what to think. Maybe there is a bear? Or a flock of coyotes? I shouted “Hello!” Again, and then a large stone flew out from somewhere and hit the ground not far from me.
Bears don't throw stones, I knew that for sure. But who was there then? As I stood and thought, an even larger stone fell even closer to me and rolled into the water. Then I realized that things were taking a dangerous turn and I began to pack my things and called my son over to me. Then I shouted "Everything is all right, we are already leaving!"
After that, I heard something in the bushes rustle again and move in our direction. It only stopped when we ran down the trail and walked about 100 yards from the house. I still don’t know what was there, it was several miles from this place to the nearest road and no one answered us. Was there a person or something else?
Something with time
Another unusual story happened when I went on a mountain hike with my sister. We walked from Mount Whitenburg to Mount Cornell for about 2.5 hours and then walked back along the same trail. The trail was clearly marked and we were at the same pace. I also had a GPS with me, although I usually take it for more difficult hikes.
And then somehow it so happened that my sister and I spent much more time on the way back than on the way there. Believe it or not, we walked exactly along the path, but we all walked and walked and the path did not lead to anything.
We spent 6.5 hours on the way back and still couldn't get back! And then I got the feeling that we were stuck in a time loop. And when we started checking our path with GPS and maps, it turned out that we barely started our way back.
When we finally got to the end of this trail, it had been 10 hours since we turned back from Mount Cornell! We didn't know what to think. Time loop? Fairy Time Trap? Everything was very strange.
Swamp Shadow
The last unusual story in the Katskill Mountains happened when I was working as a guide on route 44/55 and returning home from work. On the way, I had to cross a low ridge, and there was a swamp on both sides of the road.
It was late evening, dark, but clear and with the moon in the sky. I was already approaching the ridge, beyond which was the city of Newburgh, when suddenly in front of me I saw a dark figure that emerged from the swamp, crossed the road and disappeared into the swamp again. The figure was human, but dark gray and looked exactly like the shadow of a human.
She walked on two legs, reached a height of about 180 cm. The headlights of my car illuminated the figure when she crossed the road, but did not pass through it, be it a ghost, but as if drowned in its darkness. At the same time, the figure itself was slightly transparent. I have never seen anything like this in these places again."
