In Antarctica, they managed to find another huge subglacial lake, which is second in size only to Lake Vostok. These are the results of a new study, unveiled at the congress of the European Union of Earth Sciences in Vienna. In addition, they managed to find something very reminiscent of … a pyramid. The object is worthy of the most careful study.
Subglacial lakes like the one found are of particular scientific interest because they may contain unique life forms that have existed in isolation for millions of years.
The new lake is located close to the nearest Antarctic station (only 100 km), which will allow for more thorough exploration. The dimensions of the lake are supposedly 100 by 10 km. It is in the form of a ribbon.
The existence of a subglacial lake was indirectly indicated by furrows on the ice. Similar formations were previously found in the region of other known subglacial lakes. More than 1,000 km of canals and canyons extend from the lake to the east to Princess Elizabeth Land.
