The debate about whether Antarctica was the ancestral home of mankind in the distant past has been going on for decades. Were there highly developed civilizations on this continent? Why not.

In 1929, historians accidentally came across the Piri Reis map, created by a Turkish officer in 1513, and then lost for centuries. It was based on ancient maps, much older than many ancient civilizations known to us.

The main distinguishing feature of this map is the image of Antarctica without ice cover. By the way, the Piri Reis map is extraordinarily accurate, showing the main geographic features of the continent, such as the northern mountain ranges. And all this - three centuries before the official discovery of Antarctica.

And this card is not the only one of its kind. There are other topographic drawings that are shocking to depict the white continent free of ice. In particular, mention should be made of the Oronce Finet map, printed in 1521, which also contains detailed images of Antarctica, but not snow-covered, but green and blooming. It is very intriguing that the map describes the rivers and lakes of the continent - a fact that modern satellite images have been able to confirm.

But how is this possible? The very existence of these cards is an incredible and mysterious thing. An even bigger question that no one has answered yet is the question of the creators of the maps. Who made a global survey of our planet in the days when there was still no ice in Antarctica?

In recent decades, all this has led to the emergence of numerous interesting theories. And if we talk about the continent, let's look at the issue in more detail. With an area of over 14 million square kilometers, Antarctica is the fifth largest continent on our planet; in other words, it is twice the size of Australia. About 170 million years ago, the territory we now know as Antarctica was part of Gondwana. About 25 million years ago, it broke away from the supercontinent.

Antarctica has not always been cold, dry and ice-covered. There have been times in its long history when a tropical climate flourished on the white mainland. Now this thought seems completely fantastic and unimaginable, but in the distant past, forests inhabited by ancient life forms rustled there. But what if in those immemorial times, civilizations sunk into oblivion called Antarctica their home? Can we find evidence of their existence today?..

"Look back 100 million years and you will see Antarctica covered with lush rainforest, similar to those found in modern New Zealand," says Dr. Vanessa Bowman of the University of Leeds.

Remarkably, a scientific expedition undertaken in 2016 found rich deposits of fossils and dinosaur remains that are 71 million years old. Most of these prehistoric animals were marine reptiles, birds (ducks, for example) that lived on the white continent in the distant past.

According to creation.com, the Arctic lands in the Northern Hemisphere are famous for the fossil remains of plants and animals from the Mesozoic and Early Cenozoic eras. The same thing happened on the opposite end of the earth, in Antarctica. At a time when civilizations arose and developed on other continents, a similar process could take place on this continent. Finding evidence of the existence of such civilizations in Antarctica is not an easy task even with the modern possibilities of scientific and technological progress, because now 98% of its territory is occupied by an ice cover more than a kilometer thick.

According to Professor Charles Hapgood, it is highly probable that the white continent could have had its own civilization. The professor suggests that the inhabitants of Antarctica left the continent when natural disasters turned the once fertile land into 14 million kilometers of ice.

And here's another interesting thing: over the past couple of decades, people have discovered many amazing structures lost in the ice of Antarctica. Many researchers tend to believe that the continent has its own pyramids and ruins of ancient cities. Incredible videos will tell about it.
