Astronomers from the University of Arizona admitted the existence of a tenth planet in the solar system, comparable in size and mass to Mars. The study is being sent for publication in The Astronomical Journal, reported by New Scientist.
The Mars-like planet is located in the Kuiper Belt, a region of the solar system beyond the orbit of Neptune and containing many icy celestial bodies.
The calculations carried out by scientists show that the tenth planet can be removed from the Sun at a distance of 50 astronomical units, and its orbit is inclined to the ecliptic plane by eight degrees. The celestial body is disturbing the known objects from the Kuiper belt and, most likely, in ancient times was closer to the Sun.
Currently, there are officially eight planets in the solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. In January 2016, American scientists found evidence of the existence of a ninth planet, similar in characteristics to Neptune, but at a distance of 600-1200 astronomical units from the Sun.
