Scientists from the Institute of Astronomy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences analyzed the situation around the star KIC 8462852 (Tabby), where, last year, experts discovered, presumably, extraterrestrial structures.
Scientists managed to explain the origin of the structures without referring to the possible existence of alien life. Experts said that an unusual feature of the Tabby star, namely a drop in its brightness by 15-20% every 700 days, may be the cause of optical illusion.
Slovak scientists suggest that there may be planets around the star, shrouded in clouds of dust and debris. The reflections of these planets could just get into the lenses of telescopes at the moment when astronomers saw unusual structures on Tabby.
To test this theory, specialists created a special computer model with given parameters, which recreated the moment when images were taken from the surface of Tabby using a telescope. As a result, the specialists received the same change in the star's luminosity.
Scientists suggest that the star Tabby arose after the destruction of a large cosmic body. The results of their research were published by the Slovak specialists in Astronomy & Astrophysics.
