A zebra-donkey hybrid has appeared in the Chastity Reserve in Daloneg

An unusual replenishment took place in the ranks of the inhabitants of the Chistati Reserve in the US state of Georgia: a donkey gave birth to a cub from a male zebra, according to a press release published on the official website of the reserve. The cub, which was born on July 22, has a reddish-brown color and looks more like its mother.

From his zebra dad he got only striped black and white stockings on all four legs. However, according to the workers of the nature conservation complex, the habits and character of the zebra-fledglings succeeded in their exotic parent. “The animals have been grazing together for over 40 years, but this is the first time this has happened here … We never suspected they were mating, so the birth of this calf was a surprise,” the founder and general manager of the Chistati Reserve told a local newspaper.

A hybrid of a donkey and a zebra is called a zedonk or zonka (from the English words zebra - zebra and donkey - donkey). In nature, this animal is very rare, and the number of zedons kept in various zoos and reserves in the world is not large. In 2005, the first birth of a zedonk was reported in Barbados. Even earlier, in the 1970s, as many as three donkey-zebra hybrids were born in one of the UK zoos.
