The Phaistos disc is one of the unique mysteries of history that has not been solved to this day. It does not belong to any known writing system and has been a puzzle for scientists for more than 100 years. But one of the researchers said that he had already deciphered more than 50% of the artifact. Perhaps the solution is close?

This ancient disk, more than 2000 years old (approximately 3700 years old), was discovered in Crete in 1908. It is a clay tablet with symbols on it. They are written in the form of a spiral and are divided into fields with 5-7 hieroglyphs. Since this type of writing was different from that existing in Crete and is not similar to any known to us, it has not yet been deciphered.

However, linguist Dr. Gareth Owens recently stated that he can read 99% of the disc. At the moment, he has exceeded his goal of 50% decryption, which he set 10 years ago. However, the researcher added that reading something does not mean understanding. Very soon he will present his work, which consists of a detailed interpretation of the words on the disc.

Gareth believes that the disc contains a Minoan script that writes the Minoan language in the form of hieroglyphs. The Phaistos disc, according to Owens, is the best example of the fact that Minoan is not a dead language. The plate has 242 icons and 42 signs on both sides.

It is worth noting that dozens of scientists have been involved in research for a hundred years. The works of Russian specialists A. Molchanov and Y. Otkupshchikov are especially famous. At the moment it is not known whether any of them managed to come 100% closer to solving the ancient artifact.
