Military robots have not even really begun to be produced, but representatives of many companies have already written an open letter calling for a ban on killer robots. The letter was signed by Elon Musk, head of the DeepMind laboratory and many others. After the appeal collected a hundred and a few signatures, it was sent to the UN.

The UN was going to study the issue of the proliferation of autonomous combat drones and other overly independent and smart devices, but representatives of IT companies did not wait for the start of the discussion and sent a letter in advance. Self-propelled tanks, autonomous turrets and other types of weapons equipped with artificial intelligence may pose a serious danger in the future, so the authors of the letter quite rightly fear the beginning of another military revolution and an arms race, during which new deadly devices may appear on Earth that pose a threat to humanity.

The essence of the letter boils down to the fact that the Convention on the Prohibition and Restriction of the Use of Certain Types of Weapons must be improved to include combat robots and other autonomous weapons, because since its adoption in 1983 it has become quite outdated.
