In 1977, Czechoslovak tourists, husband and wife, traveled through the Sudetes mountain range in Central Europe. While descending from Mount Snezhka, a storm overtook them. A strong wind whirled snow whirlwinds, visibility dropped to zero and they got lost. Wandering along the slope of the mountain, the travelers were already completely desperate, but then a bluish ball appeared in the air before their eyes. He seemed to hover above the ground at a height of human growth, shuddered and shimmered.
The fear that had flared up at first was soon replaced by interest. It was as if a connection and trust were established between the ball and the people. The ball moved slowly, as if inviting to follow him. The couple consulted and decided to follow the suddenly appeared guide. Soon they saw houses at the foot of the mountain and headed towards them, and the ball disappeared without a trace.
What is this mysterious phenomenon
Wandering lights - this is the name given to this mysterious natural phenomenon. It has been known for a long time, cases of meeting with fires were described as early as the 16th century. Suddenly, as if from nowhere in space, one or more balls appear, which burn with a bright neon light. Their color can be different, white, green, blue and even orange.
They float in the air at different levels, swing from side to side, as if dancing, or float in one direction, ascend into the sky, merge into one large sphere and again crumble into several small circles. Sometimes the light that appears in the night takes the form of a candle flame, flickers and fluctuates, as if from a breath of breeze.
The usual places for the formation of an unusual glow are open spaces: cemeteries, swamps or fields. There are areas on earth where wandering lights are a peculiar local landmark due to their regular occurrence. The most famous of these is the wasteland near Queensland in Australia.

The townspeople even gave uninvited visitors the name Min-Min. In Russia, sailors met with wandering lights in the region of Kamchatka and the Kuril Islands back in the 18th century. Strange glow, dubbed the "Kuril Light", can be observed today.
The report of the captain of the third rank A. V. Khomyakov, dated June 1956, contains a story about a glow that suddenly appeared at about one in the morning, and so bright that it was possible to read the book without difficulty. And passengers on flights flying in this area can watch the greenish glow spreading across the night sky over the islands.
It happened that a luminous ball flew into the apartment. Such a case is described by an employee of the Moscow Research Institute. At night she woke up with the feeling that someone was watching her. Opening my eyes, I saw a brightly burning sphere hanging in the air, which shook and swayed from side to side. Attempts to wake up her husband did not lead to anything, and she began to observe the amazing flickering circle.
After a while, she had a feeling that he did not pose any danger, and the woman even mentally asked him to move to the side. The ball immediately followed the request and soon disappeared. And the next morning, she came up with a great idea that helped to solve an obstinate old scientific problem. The woman is sure that it was the night visitor who prompted her the answer.
Scientific explanation
The wandering fire, despite long and frequent meetings with people, is in no hurry to reveal its secret to them. Scientists all over the world are trying to explain the origin of strange light, but still much remains unclear.
At different times, scientists who have observed the lights have expressed many assumptions about the causes of their occurrence. Among the options are the accumulation of static electricity in the atmosphere, a variety of ball lightning, the release to the surface of the earth of gases formed in the process of decay of plant and living organisms.
The latter theory, which is quite popular in scientific circles, was tested by a professor at the University of Leicester. He tried to reproduce the process of the formation of fires using methane and hydrogen phosphorus. However, he failed. In addition, he was unable to find the reason why methane ignites spontaneously, because in the conditions of the ordinary earth's atmosphere this is simply impossible - the autoignition temperature of methane is 537 degrees Celsius.
Another professor at the oldest Australian university in Queensland has collected all the available data on this incomprehensible natural phenomenon and analyzed it. In his conclusion, it is said that wandering lights are a kind of mirror mirage, caused by a variety of light sources - burning car headlights, illuminated billboards or television towers, distant lightning strikes.
But this does not add to the clarity, since the size and behavior of the bright balls in different places are not similar to each other. Some burn with an even light, something pulsates inside others, incomprehensible clots appear that move chaotically, and others constantly change their color.
What those who believe in the paranormal say
Among those who adhere to supernatural views when explaining the inexplicable, it is believed that the outlandish light is the souls of the dead, stuck between worlds and unable to find a place for themselves. Such a theory would have every right to exist if the fact of the real existence of the "other world" was proven. After all, the lights do often appear in the area of cemeteries or in places where human tragedies with fatal outcomes have occurred.
There is an opinion that fires - "a miracle, wonderful, wondrous" - are intelligent creatures, moreover, very friendly towards the representatives of humanity, since there is a lot of evidence when they helped people in a difficult situation - they showed the way to a lost traveler or suggested a solution to a problem.
Like many other unusual phenomena, wandering lights have not yet found a proper explanation. Nevertheless, their reality is not questioned, and the people who meet them, in addition to the remaining exciting impressions, will also have something to tell their grandchildren.
