During archaeological excavations in the Pavlovo-Posad district of the Moscow region, carried out before the construction of the highway, a treasure of the early 17th century was found.

A ceramic vessel containing 623 silver coins, minted during the reigns of Ivan the Terrible and Boris Godunov, was discovered by an expedition near Moscow of the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences near the village of Bolshie Dvory.

Experts believe that the contents of the treasure are the proceeds from a successful transaction made in 1602-1603. Most likely, from the sale of bread, the prices of which then rose noticeably after two years of poor harvest. Most of the houses at that time were wooden and often burned, and the peasants, in order to protect their savings from fire, buried them in the ground.

The total amount of the treasure is 6 rubles 23 kopecks. For this money, one could build a house or buy a work horse with a cow. Other peasant treasures of the 16th - early 17th centuries contained a maximum of 300 silver kopecks.

Almost 98% of the coins belong to the reign of Boris Godunov (1598–1605), that is, the treasure was hidden at the very beginning of the 17th century, not long before the Time of Troubles. Most of the coins are brand new, which have not been in circulation yet. Also, the owner of the treasure put a copper cross in a vessel with coins, probably as a talisman.

After a detailed study, the find will be transferred to the State Museum of Moscow or the Moscow Region.
