This Wednesday, a group of scientists from Baylor University published a study that shows that the use of electronic cigarettes (vaping) can cause the accumulation of fat particles in the lungs. This accumulated fat can not only be dangerous in itself but also make it easier for the flu to enter the body.

Although vaping was previously positioned as a healthier alternative to smoking, the accumulated risks of vaping slowly began to make holes in its history. One of the largest is more than 215 cases of "possibly vaping-related diseases." In all these cases, the causes of the diseases are still unclear, although one of the previously reported diseases in vapers is lipoid pneumonia, which occurs when fat particles accumulate in the lung tissue.

“The public should be aware that, in addition to the added flavor and / or nicotine, the solvents used (also known as e-juices) are bad for the lungs,” says lead author Farrah Heramand.

In fact, these still early results may hint to vapers at the root of their flu this fall. But in a broader perspective, they begin to explain how vaping can affect the lungs in unpredictable ways.
