Photographer Marcelo Castro has taken several atmospheric portraits of monks in Myanmar reading books as the Earth rotates around its axis.

Castro admits that his wanderlust is motivated by his desire to get amazing pictures in the places where he travels. By profession, Marcelo is an electrical engineer and can work anywhere, combining income with passion, reports My Modern Met.

“My photographs take me to breathtaking corners of the planet and show amazing scenes that I might not have noticed if I had not had a camera,” admits Castro.

Several years ago, the photographer visited the ancient city of Old Bagan in Myanmar and met a group of young monks there. There he also made their portraits among the walls of an ancient pagoda. Sunlight breaks through them and creates a soft glow of the composition, complementing the peaceful life of the monks.

These people made an indelible impression on Castro: “I experienced an unfamiliar feeling. One that never came to me anywhere except at home."

After reflecting on why this happened, the photographer came to the conclusion that it was the monks who determined his emotional reaction. These people were happy, friendly, open, created an atmosphere of peace and every new acquaintance was accepted as a family.
