Ural radio amateur Valentin Degterev made a new discovery about the lost Atlantis. Based on the descriptions of the ancient philosopher Plato about the lost city, he was able to calculate its coordinates and find satellite images where the ocean hides the submerged continent.
Degterev, having studied Plato's words about the wonderful island, found out that it was located to the west of the Pillars of Hercules, opposite the Atlas Mountains (Atlas Mountains) - this is a large mountain system in north-west Africa, stretching from the Atlantic coast of Morocco through Algeria to the coast of Tunisia. The length of the ridges is 2092 km. Coordinates 31.061667 °, -7.915833 °.
According to Plato's recollections, Atlantis was a very rich continent, where there was plenty of water and food, cattle, metal, and jewelry. The rulers of Atlantis "have amassed such riches that have never been possessed by any royal dynasty in the past and hardly ever will be." According to Plato's descriptions, the city was surrounded by rows of concentric rings filled with water that protected it. The rulers built huge bridges over the canals and erected high walls in each ring of defense, enclosing them in metal. On the central island there was a wonder of wonders - a palace complex. The main temple (dedicated to Poseidon and his wife, the nymph Kleito) was plated with silver and its spiers sparkled with gold. The roof was made of solid ivory, inlaid with precious metals.
Ural Indiana Jones notes that due to the earthquake that occurred in 2015, the bottom in this part of the ocean has risen strongly. “Plato did not deceive us, Atlantis was in this place. Coordinates 31.013589, -12.566564. The dimensions of the drowned island are about 40 kilometers,”Degterev writes. He notes that the island was small in size, but "at the time of Plato, the requirements for the cities were very modest."
The researcher admits that his find may only be a port city. It is “such an ancient logistics center in the Atlantic Ocean. The fact that he was definitely in the Atlantic Ocean is already obvious to me. After all, this artifact was also not on land,”the radio amateur notes.
At the moment, the story of Atlantis is considered by most scientists to be either a philosophical myth invented by Plato, or a myth formed on the basis of memories of some real ancient catastrophe. In pseudo-scientific circles, Atlantis is the subject of various hypotheses, at different times the island was searched not only in various oceans, but also in the seas. The creation of a special scientific discipline - atlantology was declared. Atlantis has become a popular destination for artists and writers.
Valentin Degterev hopes that thanks to the new data he has provided, one of the scientists can again go in search of the sunken island.
