The main idea for the beginning of the search for Atlantis was the works of Plato "Timaeus" and "Critias". They tell a story about a certain beautiful island where an entire state is located, which sank into the depths of the ocean more than 11.5 thousand years ago.

Plato tells about the Atlanteans, children of the god of the seas Poseidon from a mortal woman who gave ten sons to the sea ruler.

Over time, the father will give them the island, dividing it into ten parts.

Atlantis was a full-fledged country with its own civilization, economy, culture and art. Such a city had an amazing architecture for that, and even today.

No army of those times could compare with the army of the Atlanteans. A huge military fleet, considerable ground forces. Poseidon's children conquered one country after another until they came to Athens.

The inhabitants of Athens entered into an alliance with the Balkan Peninsula, but they got cold feet at the last moment and did not come to the rescue. However, this did not break the spirit of the inhabitants of Athens, they still defeated the mighty Atlanteans and liberated other countries. But Zeus was angry with the Atlanteans, for their greed and greed, and flooded Atlantis with all its inhabitants.

Plato wrote that there is no confirmation that Atlantis existed, rather it was just a beautiful fairy tale. However, this tale gave birth to many theories and laid the foundation for the search for the great Atlantis.

Aristotle believed that all of Plato's stories are the invention of a senile person. Most likely, this is why, until the 18th century, there is practically no mention of Atlantis.

However, references to Atlantis can be found not only in the writings of Plato, but also in many other treatises of Ancient Greece.

The search for Atlantis continues to this day in different parts of the world. Plato states in his writings that the city was located in the Gibraltar region. But all searches in those places yielded nothing.

Other scientists are looking for an island in the Black Sea, proving that the state was found by the fact that about 7-8 thousand years ago, the sea level rose by more than 140 meters.

There is one more hypothesis, and if you put everything together, then such a picture emerges that we will never be able to see the beauty of Atlantis. The hypothesis is that Antarctica is Atlantis.

If you think about it, the disappearance of these two countries coincides, as does the scope of the state. Antarctica is associated with many references in the philosophical treatises of Ancient Greece, it was there, in their opinion, that the Atlanteans left.

It is worth noting that the modern south and north poles were formed relatively recently. According to the descriptions of ancient treatises, Antarctica used to be a southern country, but as a result of the collision of the earth with a cosmic body, it changed its climate (see figure)

However, if this hypothesis and the hypothesis of Academician S. V. Tomirdiaro put forward in the 70s are true, then no one can find Atlantis. The theory is based on the fact that Antarctica lay on ice and was covered with earth on top, the fact that the mainland simply melted and sank into summer is attributed to its disappearance.

There are also other opinions regarding the search for the disappeared state. Someone believes that Atlantis should be sought in Brazil, who believe that they found it in the Mediterranean Sea, near Crete. And researchers are not confused by the fact that the found underwater city is dozens of times smaller than Atlantis.

I think that in the near future we will hear many more different "discoveries" of Atlantis.
