In Bulgaria, archaeologists during excavations in a Neolithic settlement near the town of Uzunovo discovered a sculpture depicting the deity of the first farmers in Europe. The statuette was created at a time when the locals were just moving from hunting and gathering to sedentary farming.

According to scientists, the statuette of the earliest deity was made in the 7th millennium BC. It is made using methods and techniques typical for the culture of Lepensky Vir.

Archaeologists also found ritual clay discs, an arrowhead, well-preserved stone and bone tools, fragments of vessels and even a harpoon for fishing.

“These findings testify to the existence of a mysterious civilization that used long-forgotten methods to process materials,” says lead author Georgy Ganetsovski of the Regional History Museum in Vratsa. "The settlement we found belongs to a very early period, presumably, to the first years of the emergence of modern European civilization."
