Yellowstone is again showing signs of increased activity after hundreds of mini-earthquakes were recorded last month, prompting fears that a volcanic eruption is imminent.

The Old Faithful Geyser, located near the active Yellowstone Caldera, is expected to erupt shortly, according to national park experts.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory stated:

“During February 2018, the University of Utah seismographic stations responsible for operating and analyzing the Yellowstone seismic network detected 569 earthquakes in the Yellowstone National Park region.

The largest event was a minor magnitude 3.1 earthquake about eight miles northeast of West Yellowstone, Montana on February 18 at 8.29 a.m. MST (2.19 hours GMT).

The active swarm, which occurred about 13 km (8 mi) northeast of West Yellowstone, Montana, near where the swarm occurred in Maple Creek last year, includes three earthquakes ranging from 3 to 2.7 …

Events are not over yet.

Yellowstone's seismic activity is currently at elevated levels compared to its typical background activity.”

Meanwhile, social networks were stunned by its increased seismic activity.

Joey Brooklyn said on Twitter, "Yellowstone is rumble again."

American meteorologist Tom Skilling said: “The geysers and other thermal features of Yellowstone National Park suggest that the volcano is actually a super volcano, due to the amount of material ejected, and is active.

It is impossible to predict when the major eruption of Yellowstone will occur, but the volcano is now under close control."

The latest update, published by the USGS and the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory earlier, retained the eruption warning due to hundreds of earthquakes hitting the area around the super-volcano.
