On one of the shores of the Icelandic Gulf, a mystical stone creature is frozen, which seems alive in the sunset rays of the sun. In fact, the 15-meter high Hvitserkur is all that remains of the eponymous volcano.

The name of the rock translates as "white shirt". Indeed, you can see several large white bald spots on the stones, but this has nothing to do with any anomalous or geological features, but exclusively with birds, or rather with the products of their vital activity.

You can admire the majestic Hvitserkur from the shore, and when the water recedes during low tide, tourists have the opportunity to approach in the rock, practically without getting their feet wet. Local residents noticed that the water was gradually eroding the base of the rock and began to coat Hvitserkur with cement. This, of course, spoils the view, but it prolongs the life of the local attraction.

The pointed rock itself is relatively small - it reaches 15 meters in height, but it is this small size that allows it to be confused from the shore with a huge dog, wild boar or something similar and no less unnatural. Especially memorable pictures can be observed at sunset - insufficient illumination finally erases the line between reality and imagination …

At such moments, the Hvitzerkur rock resembles a huge monster that decided to quench its immense thirst. Since the rock is located in Iceland, here you can observe the beautiful effect of the northern lights, which also gives it interesting colors

Hunafloi Bay is indeed very rich in a variety of bird species. The rock has found its place in Icelandic folklore as well. Legend has it that the troll, caught by the rays of the rising sun, turned to stone and froze in this way. In 1990, the town was also immortalized on the country's postage stamps.
