Scraps of legends about what is now commonly called the "phenomenon of spontaneous combustion" have come down to us from antiquity.
But in the twenty-first century, such cases of spontaneous combustion began to be actively promoted in the media. It is difficult to find at least one program about the supernatural, where in one of the issues the phenomenon of spontaneous combustion is not mentioned.
For the sake of fairness, it is worth noting that, nevertheless, some programs conduct a sluggish criticism of this phenomenon and sometimes mention the opinion of skeptics. But the majority still ascribes to this phenomenon all the magical properties that popular fantasy could only generate.
The phenomenon of spontaneous combustion has been known for a long time
Some sources indicate that cases of spontaneous combustion occurred in the Middle Ages, only now we will never be able to know if they are a figment of the imagination of uneducated villagers and clergymen or a fact.
In those days, many believed that people who made an agreement with the devil would go to ashes if they did not honor the agreement.
Beginning in the sixteenth century, alcoholics began to be intimidated by the fact that their bodies were soaked through with alcohol, and they could flare up at any moment. I do not know if this rumor made someone stop drinking or reduced alcohol consumption in European countries, but many new legends have appeared about spontaneous combustion of people.

Spontaneous combustion is still the reason for numerous rumors and legends. Today, even the cases, which some call documented, raise a huge number of questions.
There is no convincing evidence for the existence of spontaneous combustion as a phenomenon. Moreover, its very possibility as a physical process is rejected by the overwhelming majority of scientists.
But nevertheless, a number of very controversial hypotheses appeared that theoretically can explain this phenomenon. But no one has carried out experimental tests yet.
